Project Engineer - Covington, VA

The Opportunity:

As a Project Engineer you will be responsible for coordinating the planning, organizing, and completion of capital projects.

How you will impact WestRock:

  • Support and foster safety and environmental compliance

  • Understand safe designs, safe work practices, and safe work environments

  • Evaluate the performance of mechanical systems to determine the best option for replacement.

  • Develop capital CFR documents for the capital approval process

  • Implement capital projects on time and within budget

  • Control project costs by developing bid packages, monitoring expenditures, and administering contracts

  • Establish project schedules by studying specifications, calculating time requirements, and sequencing project elements

  • Responsible for construction oversight during implementation phases of on-site construction

  • Partner with operations, E&I, and Mechanical Maintenance to understand all processes and how teams and individuals are involved and impacted at each step

What you will need to succeed:

  • Bachelor’s degree in science or engineering; mechanical or chemical engineering preferred

  • Strong Fiberline and Waste Treatment experience preferred

  • Must have 5 years of experience in a project, operations, or maintenance engineering role

  • Experience with SAP preferred

  • Strong problem-solving and process-analysis skills to evaluate data and make decisions to drive process improvements through capital upgrades

  • Possess effective communication skills to clearly convey project-related data to operations, maintenance, and management

  • Proven track record of collaboration within cross-functional teams

  • Work experience in the paper industry or similar industry preferred
