Western Maryland AHEC Peer Recovery Specialist in Cumberland, Maryland

The main purpose of this position is guiding, supporting, and assisting individuals and families on the recovery continuum. Determine recovery support needs, refer individuals and families to the appropriate community resources that are beyond the scope of these services. Other duties includethe completion and submission of required forms, reports, and data entry. Assistancewith various clinics such as the vaccine and seasonal flu clinic may be required. The Peer Recovery Specialist will facilitate the planning and implementation of recovery support activities:

  • Provide peer recovery support services to clients diagnosed with or identifying as having substance use disorders, mental health disorders, and /or co-occurring disorders.
  • Advocate for clients by speaking on personal experiences regarding substance use, mental health disorders or co-occurring experiences.
  • Support clients throughout their recovery process and encourages them to take empowering actions in order to regain control over their lives andrecovery.
  • Meet with clinical staff and other treatment team members to support clients by providing input into developing a recovery plan and determining the steps to reduce barriers to recovery and their recovery goals.
  • Discuss the recovery plan with clients in recovery and their families.
  • Respond to clients in crises.
  • Determine support needs and refer individuals and families to the appropriate community resources.
  • Complete and submit the required forms, reports and data entry required by the department and partner agencies, and the Behavioral Health Administration.
