Summary:

Responsible for the distribution, decontamination, maintenance, charging and tracking of all centralized equipment for use in the care of patients. Supports the inventory, and supply and equipment distribution function through the Materials Distribution Center/Central Supply Dept to ensure availability of supplies and equipment to patient care areas. This position supports the day-to-day operations of the Laundry Department, Materials Distribution Dock area and the Mailroom.

Responsibilities:

  1. Performs manual skills to care for clinical & technical equipment. This includes technical, set-up & decontamination procedures.

  2. Performs manual skills to care for clinical/technical equip. via preventative maintenance techniques, safety inspections, correct working order/decontamination procedures on equip. handled via centralized Equipment Program; monitors equipment performance.

  3. Works with customer service departments to ensure patient care is not interrupted. Handles incoming phone calls to Materials Distribution & Equipment Program in a professional service approach.

  4. Responds to all requests for services by providing necessary MDC items, performing Distribution par inventories & delivery function, Mailroom or Linen requests/carts in a timely fashion.

  5. Evaluates equipment requirements on an ongoing basis to ensure that equipment is readily available for patient care. If equipment is not available, performs procedural responsibilities to ensure equipment is processed according to departmental standards.

  6. Performs rounds to patient care areas to collect equipment requiring return to Equipment Program.

  7. Works as a supply coordinator in Materials Distribution Center to provide supplies for dept. requests. Has total knowledge of supplies and handles par level inventory process, equipment, carts & trays maintained & stored in Materials Distribution Center.

  8. Performs activities relates to managing inventory items, aids ordering, charging & inventory tracking process. Works with Materials Management to maintain on-hand stock.

  9. Performs activities to clean, organize, stock, assemble & maintain life critical carts, trays, equipment to ensure patient care needs are met. Ensures accuracy of supply inventory according to checklists.

  10. Maintains integrity orequired supplies. Processes linen in laundry clean room; takes phone requests, delivers small piece orders & filling & delivers daily nursing floor linen replenishment carts.

  11. Uses manual and automated systems to track & maintain the integrity of inventory & charging process for supplies & equipment. Uses Equipment Tracking software to manage the flow, utilization & tracking of equipment as used in patient care areas.

  12. Notifies Clinical Engineering Depart. & Supervisor of equipment failures.

  13. Works with Clinical Engineering to ensure equipment works. Segregates non-working equipment or marked defective, to ensure it is checked or repaired as appropriate, prior to return to service.

  14. May participate in physical inventory process of equipment and supplies.

  15. Participates as an active member of the Materials Distribution Center in performance improvement activities, work redesign initiatives.

  16. Works in soiled linen room; uses proper infection control techniques to move soiled linen from laundry chute area to the storage area. Assists in the pick-up of soiled tubs elsewhere in the building and bringing them back to the soiled linen storage area.

  17. Fulfills all compliance responsibilities related to the position.

  18. Performs other duties as assigned.

Other information:

Required: High degree of manual dexterity. Strong customer service skills. Team worker is essential.

Minimum Experience: three years

Desired: Computer literacy skills preferred. Background in equipment maintenance or inventory process preferred.Healthcare background preferred. Ability to follow detailed, technical instructions to maintain equipment.
