  • Job Summary

  • Under the guidance of the Provider or Manager, the Ophthalmology Tech will perform a variety of routine tests as well as documenting patient medical histories. May assist the Provider in minor surgical procedures. Must provide customer service in a friendly, courteous, professional manner.   • Working Conditions, Hazards and Physical Effort

  • Works in a well-lighted, ventilated and air conditioned area. Often exposed to unpleasant odors, sights and sounds. Long periods in a stationary position and moving around the unit are required. There are risks of exposure to disease and infection. The task of this job does not involve exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues, but employment may require performing supplemental tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues. Must be able to move or position 25 lbs. independently.

  • Minimum Qualifications or Equivalents

  • Education: High School diploma or equivalent plus successful completion of a JRCOMP (Joint Review Committee for Ophthalmic Medical Personnel)approved program for Ophthalmology Technicians plus a minimum of one (1) year of satisfactory, full-time work experience under ophthalmologic supervision, including training in all skills listed in professional criteria. Equivalency criteria may be substituted as described in the JCAHPO – Core Criteria Handbook.

  • Experience: Minimum of one (1) years’ experience in an ophthalmology setting required.

  • EQUIPMENT USED/SPECIAL SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Knowledge of ocular diseases and systemic disease affecting the eye.

  • Knowledge of ultrasound and visual field machines.

  • Knowledge of basic eye care and hygienic methods and practices involving the treatment of the eye.

  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills including the ability to manage interactions with difficult people.

  • Knowledge of CPT & ICD-9 coding procedures.

  • Knowledge of medical terminology.

  • OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to multi-task efficiently and effectively.

  • Must be able to act calmly and effectively in a busy and/or stressful situation.

  • Requires adherence to all policies and procedures, including but not limited to standards for safety, attendance, punctuality and personal appearance.

  • Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, management and peers.

  • Licenses, Certifications, and/or Registrations

  • CPR required within 3 months
