BRIEF POSITION SUMMARY:

At MSC, we are growing our Analytics team and investing in forward-thinking BI and Data Analytics solutions. The BI Developer will turn data into information, information into insight, and insight into business decisions. Work closely with business to help define business requirements and recommend alternatives to assist in presenting the best options for users. This is an agile environment which requires the role to be flexible, self-driven and collaborative.

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collaborates with business stakeholders, subject matter experts and engineering teams to understand data requirements and translate them into scalable and efficient data models.

  • Designs and develops high quality, user-friendly data analytics products including standardized reports, self-serve data extracts and dashboards that provide timely and accurate insights to stakeholders.

  • Creates interactive and visually appealing reports, dashboards, and data visualizations using BI tools such as Tableau, Alteryx, Google Looker, Power BI, or similar tools.

  • Performs data analysis and identifies trends, patterns, and insights to support decision-making and analytics development processes.

  • Provides feedback, accurate estimates, and updates to ensure proper tracking for active sprints/projects

  • Partners with data engineering and data governance teams to develop semantic datasets to improve analytics development cycle.

  • Optimizes and fine-tunes SQL queries and database performance to ensure efficient data retrieval and processing.

  • Implements data governance and security measures to ensure data accuracy, privacy, and compliance with regulatory and company requirements.

  • Collaborates with cross-functional teams to integrate BI solutions into existing systems and applications.

  • Monitors performance against defined goals. Investigates potential issues and implements resolutions.

  • Stays current with emerging trends and technologies in the field of business intelligence, and data analytics, and recommends improvements to existing processes and tools.

  • Fosters the MSC Culture in the department and throughout the company to ensure fulfillment of MSC’s vision and unity of purpose.

  • Participation in special projects and performs additional duties as required

    EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor ’s degree in in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Analytics or a related study required.

  • Minimum of three years of proven experience as a BI Developer or in a similar role, with a strong track record of successfully delivering end-to-end BI projects.

  • Minimum of three years of experience architecting, designing, and developing enterprise-wide dashboards and reporting solutions

  • Expertise in data modeling, ELT processes, with a deep understanding of relational and dimensional database structures.

  • Proficiency in SQL programming and experience with leading relational databases such as MySQL, Oracle, or SQL Server.

  • Extensive experience with business intelligence and data visualization tools such as Power BI, Tableau, QlikView, or similar platforms.

  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python or R, with experience in data manipulation, analysis, and visualization libraries preferred.

    SKILLS:

  • Strong Agile / Design Thinking / Rapid Prototyping experience

  • Strong SQL skills (T-SQL, PL/SQL, MySQL, Redshift)

  • Strong proficiency in using advanced features of BI tools such as Tableau, Alteryx, Looker, Power BI is required.

  • Strong knowledge of advanced analytics techniques and tools, such as predictive modeling, machine learning, or statistical analysis is preferred.

  • Familiarity with cloud-based data platforms, preferably Google Cloud Platform and Azure, and experience with cloud-based BI solutions is a plus.

  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to analyze complex datasets, identify patterns, and derive meaningful insights.

  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders at all levels of the organization.

  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven agile environment.

    OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • A valid driver’s license and the ability to travel 10% of the time may be required.

  • This position may require access to International Traffic in Arms Regulations Information (“ITAR”) and/or Controlled Unclassified Information (“CUI”).
