Ford Motor Company Thermal Systems Engineering (TSE)- Core Technical Specialist in Dearborn, Michigan

The Vehicle Energy Management Engineering (VEME)-Thermal Systems Engineering (TSE) team is responsible for the full vehicle sign-off of heat management for component temperatures in the vehicle environment that are exposed to heat from the powertrain and exhaust. While the functional organizations have component requirements for the maximum design temperatures permitted for the long-term durability of the components due to the thermal environment, TSE provides the final sign-off position. The vehicle testing for the sign-off of the components is referenced by the Safety Office and Critical Concerns Group when there are questions regarding the robustness of a component for vehicles in the field. Thermal experts for Heat Management will oversee the requirements and process disciplines to ensure robust program delivery.

What You'll Do…

  • Own the Thermal Systems Engineering requirements and test methods for ICE and EVs

  • Thermal System Requirements for PT Cooling, Heat Management, and Front End Airflow and Sealing

  • Thermal System test Methods for CAE and Physical testing

  • DVP for global products for sign-off (including the “DVP GUI”)

  • Own Thermal Systems Engineering processes and methods

  • Global Processes for Thermal Systems Engineering

  • Process Checklist (Attribute Status Report)

  • Lessons Learned and formalization of the process of Prevent Recurrence

  • Customer Correlation studies (initiation, oversight, post-processing)

  • PT Cooling and Heat Management Program Dashboards for Program Milestone Reviews

  • Standard instrumentation (physical and engine control module signals) requirements for vehicle testing for characterization and sign-off

  • Sign-off documentation process

  • Interface with Vehicle Verification for:

  • Test Efficiency actions including establishing and reviewing metrics for “first time through.”

  • Updating and error checking of wind tunnel/dyno drive profiles

  • Serve as primary interface with

  • Powertrain calibration for Maturity Progression Matrix

  • Powertrain Exhaust D&R for Malfunction Mode Agreement Template

  • Component D&R SMEs for Thermal Robustness Requirements (Maximum Design limits by time at temperature)

  • Materials Engineering for prioritization of data collection for material properties required for thermal analysis by material specification.

  • Base Engine and Exhaust to enhance exhaust CFD modeling techniques for a prescriptive calculation of the external exhaust surfaces (manifold, hot end, and cold end)

  • CAE Integration for transparency of program reports for CAE input health

  • Critical Concerns Group for program issues

You'll Have…

  • Master’s in Mechanical / Aerospace Engineering or equivalent (i.e. Physics or thermal fluids)

  • Minimum of 10 years experience in automotive thermal systems engineering

  • Minimum of 6 years experience specifically in automotive cooling system design and heat management

  • Minimum of 6 years experience in automotive aero/thermal testing

  • Minimum of 6 years experience in working with cross-functional, global teams
