This is a full-time, exempt position.

Job Description:

The ADM Glycols plant is seeking an Instrumentation and Electrical supervisor to oversee the development of instrumentation and electrical (I/E) technicians, guide the facility in continuous improvement efforts related to instrumentation and electrical equipment, ensure all instrumentation and electrical work at the plant is done to current standards, and oversee any instrumentation and electrical contractor work on our site. In addition to supervisory responsibilities, this job will be as a “working supervisor” where expertise will be applied in the field alongside their team. The I/E supervisor is expected to be an I/E applications expert who will be involved in the installation, maintenance, and improvement of I/E systems, and in the day to day operational activities of the Glycols plant. The I/E Supervisor will work with the maintenance team to incorporate Reliability Centered Maintenance best practices in addition to utilizing Performance Excellence tools. This role reports to the Glycols Maintenance Superintendent.

The Glycols plant produces USP & Industrial grades of renewable sourced propylene glycol, glycerin, and co-products utilizing various production processes and operational functions. These include material handling, reactors, distillation, and other separations.

Responsibilities include:

  • Working with the maintenance scheduler and production leaders to coordinate the work of the instrument and electrical group.

  • Providing expertise in plant instrumentation applications and trouble shooting.

  • Planning and coordination of project, maintenance, and shut down work.

  • Training and development of instrumentation and electrical group.

  • Assisting with training of other plant personnel in I&E activities; including the development of SOP’s.

  • Utilization of CMMS (MAXIMO) to manage various maintenance activities, including scheduling and parts inventory.

  • Audit electrical contractor work groups for compliance with electrical and instrumentation standards.

  • Enforcement of compliance requirements (e.g. safety, GMP, environmental).

  • Proactive participation in the administration and development of plant safety and quality programs.

  • Communicating information and recommendations to key stake holders which includes management, production, and engineering using various written and oral methods.

  • Developing and maintaining 3-5 year I/E asset reliability plan for the plant.

  • Own developing, scheduling, and completing ITPMs on all instrumentation CSDs.

  • Maintaining and driving AMS systems at the plant.

  • Utilizing problem solving methodologies to solve complex problems with high level countermeasures.

  • All duties as assigned by supervisor

Required Experience and Skills:

The I/E Supervisor candidate must have excellent time management and organization skills. Make decisions with limited knowledge to plan and accomplish goals. A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required. Strong instrumentation/electrical skills are necessary which includes working knowledge of diagnostic tools and understanding of applicable theories. The candidate shall possess good leadership skills, be able to work under time constraints, have a high attention to detail, and the desire to learn. Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications is essential. The person shall possess a strong work ethic and possess the following skills:

  • Minimum of 5 years of industrial production and/or construction instrumentation experience.

  • Two year supervisory experience in an industrial setting.

  • Minimum of 2 years experience with D3 distributed controls, Allen Bradley PLC’s, and Modicon control equipment.

  • Technical aptitude in instrumentation, electrical, and control systems.

  • Experience/knowledge of AD/DC circuit theory, process instruments, electrical safety devices and requirements.

  • Knowledge of production plant equipment and their interaction with process controls & instrumentation.

  • Familiarity with various electrical classifications including Class 1 Division 1 Group B (Hydrogen); Class 1 Division 1 Group D (Alcohols), Including intrinsically safe wiring systems.

  • Knowledge of HART instrumentation protocol.

  • Prompt and consistent self-starter with ability to manage deadlines while juggling multiple tasks.

  • Excellent communication skills - both oral and detailed written are needed to be effective in this position.

  • Strong interpersonal skills are necessary to effectively interact with multiple employees, management personnel, and other stakeholders. Interpersonal skills employed include handling conflict; explaining problems and potential corrective actions for processes in a fair, honest, and direct way.

  • The candidate must be able to utilize independent judgment to solve problems, have excellent organizational skills, and strive for continuous improvement.

  • Ability and willingness to travel as required for training.

The employee will work in a plant environment and is expected to initiate work based on general instructions. The physical requirements of the job requires ability to climb stairs, lifting up to 55 lbs, prolonged periods of standing and sitting, computer work, meeting deadlines, providing calculated information, working in confined spaces and from heights, bending, kneeling, working adjusted hours, and working as instructed. Prompt attendance is a must. Physical qualification to wear a respirator is required. Colleague may be called outside of work hours if there is a business need.
