Here’s the scoop - Summary

The Vice President, Sales Canada is responsible for business development, channel expansion, trade strategy, market analytics, sales communication, distributor management, retail execution, and sales operations for Champion Petfoods across Canada’s Specialty Pet Channel.

The VP, Sales Canada will build and sustain productive business relationships with key decision makers within distributors and retailers, guide annual sales planning using data driven insights to maximize margin accretive sales opportunities, analyze and recommend appropriate pricing strategies while directing the sales team in communicating pricing updates to customers, and ensure tight sales forecast accuracy for current portfolio while facilitating successful new product launches. Collaborating cross functionally the VP, Sales Canada will also work to align sales and marketing strategies within operational capabilities and evaluate successes, risks, and opportunities to improve top and bottom-line key performance indicators.

The VP, Sales Canada is a remote position requiring extensive travel and reports directly to the Chief Customer Officer.

What a typical day looks like:

  • Lead Channel and customer development.

  • Lead, coach and develop 2 Regional Sales Managers who in turn lead Territory Sales Representatives, as well as 3 Key Account Managers (5 direct reports, 20 indirect).

  • Lead Canada sales and trade promotion planning processes to grow sales across the channel within all product categories.

  • Maintain competitive knowledge to create and adjust sales strategies.

  • Develop and deploy effective pricing strategy by keeping current with supply and demand, changing trends, economic indicators, and competitors.

  • Leverage market analytics to deliver critical and relevant and actionable insights to the Canada sales team, distributor partners, and customers.

  • Lead Canada specific sales communications.

  • Lead Canada specific sales operations.

  • Establish effective and collaborative relationships with other departments (Marketing, Finance, Production, Customer Service, etc.) to address key business issues and opportunities.

  • Organize and execute industry trade shows.

What are we looking for?

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business or a related field.

  • 10+ years related work experience in consumer packaged goods and/or training.

  • Established track record in a Sales Management or Business Analytics.

  • Field Sales leadership experience.

  • Canadian customer development experience.

  • Results-oriented with demonstrated business skills related to goal setting, budgeting, reporting and analytical abilities to assess and interpret results.

  • Strong Leadership/Team Player skills and abilities to apply strategic thinking, execute effectively and build strong teams.

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, negotiation skills, and good listening skills with ability to work successfully with diverse groups, as well as independently.

  • Uses a collaborative approach to problem solving.

  • Builds effective and inclusive relationships with employees at various levels.

  • Partner and collaborate across organizational boundaries.

  • Very strong analytical literacy.

  • Fluent in English, fluency in French considered an asset.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

  • Flexibility to travel extensively.

  • Able to work extended hours as required.
