Role Overview:

Local Veterans' Employment Representatives conduct outreach to employers and business associations and engage in advocacy efforts with hiring executives to increase employment opportunities for Veterans and encourage the hiring of disabled Veterans. Local Veterans' Employment Representatives' principal duties are to: (1) Conduct outreach to employers in the area to assist Veterans in gaining employment, including conducting seminars for employers and, in conjunction with employers, conducting job search workshops and establishing job search groups; and (2) Facilitate employment, training, and placement services furnished to Veterans in a State under the applicable State employment service delivery systems.

Salary Statement:

The salary for this position traditionally starts at $42,900.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role are as follows:

  • Conduct outreach to employers to assist veterans in gaining employment, including conducting seminars for employers and, in conjunction with employers, conducting job search workshops and establishing job search groups.

  • Facilitate employment, training, and placement services delivered to veterans.

  • Plan and participate in job and career fairs.

  • Promote the advantages of hiring veterans to employers, employer associations, and business groups.

  • Work in partnership with Work One to identify job ready Veterans for career placement.

  • Promote all Work One services to the employer community through presentations and trainings and provide local Work One offices training on what services the LVER offer.

  • Develop employer outreach activities to establish, maintain, and facilitate regular contact with employers that will promote employment and training opportunities for the benefit of all Veterans.

What You'll Need for Success:

You must meet the following requirements to be considered for employment:

  • Must have a High School Diploma or a High School Equivalent (HSE).

  • Veteran hiring preference position. 

  • Ability to utilize basic computer skills including Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).

  • Ability to communicate effectively and speak publicly to present information and interview Veterans.

  • Ability to learn all VA program offerings by the State of Indiana and the local job centers.

  • Ability to provide quality customer service.

  • Ability to conduct internet research such as labor market information, veteran programs, services, and social media (Example: LinkedIn).

You must satisfy the following requirements to continue employment:

  • Complete all DOL-VETS required training as defined by the National Veterans Training Institute (NVTI) within 18 months.
