Fairfax County’s Department of Vehicle Services (DVS) is a diverse agency that is responsible for the repair and maintenance of over 6,200 vehicles and pieces of equipment. DVS is seeking a Lift and Shop Equipment Repair Technician to be a part of our team and perform routine and complex maintenance and repair work on facility equipment and systems in the four DVS Maintenance Facilities.

This position performs routine maintenance and complex work in repairing, inspecting, testing, and maintaining facility equipment and systems for DVS such as lifts, overhead doors, lubricant storage, fluid dispensing systems, air compressors, and compressed air delivery components. Also performs lift maintenance and repairs in accordance with Automotive Lift Institute (ALI) safety requirements and standards. Maintains a planned maintenance and repair service log to document compliance with ALI standards. The candidate should know how to use test equipment and follow procedures, schematic diagrams, and technical specifications to diagnose and repair any deficiencies with lift safety or operation. Orders and installs parts approved by the original equipment manufacturer or that meet original manufacturer specifications and respond to emergency calls on malfunctioning lifts. Performs lock-out and tag-out protocol on lifts that are out of service.

This position will be responsible for coordinating and overseeing the legally required annual inspections of vehicle lifts by a qualified lift inspector in conformance with the American National Standards Institute, Inc. (ANSI) / Automotive Lift Institute (ALI) safety requirements for operation, inspection, and maintenance. Performs other duties as may be assigned to further the goals and objectives of DVS.

Salary: The salary offer will be in the minimum to midpoint ($57,382.00 to $76,509.26) and will not exceed the mid-point of the advertised compensation range. Compensation rules apply per Fairfax County Personnel Regulations for current Fairfax County Government and Fairfax County Public Schools employees.

Employment Standards

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to the following:

High school graduation or a G. E. D. issued by a state department of education; plus completion of an apprentice-level vocational training program in electronics; and two years of experience in the maintenance and repair of the electronic and electromechanical equipment specific to the position.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Automotive Lift Institute (ALI) Independent Car Lift Certification

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:

Driver's license (required)

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check and driving record check to the satisfaction of the employer.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must be able to: lift 50 lbs. on an average of once daily; stoop, bend, twist, and reach many times daily; use ladders extensively; use creeper (or get on hands and knees) several times daily. All duties may be performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
