Salvation Army Camp Counselor in Finlayson, Minnesota
The Salvation Army Northwoods Camp is hiring a seasonal Camp Counselor. Position Summary The Cabin Counselor develops an assigned group of campers (6-17 years of age) in their social, physical, intellectual, emotional, and spiritual strengths through group living, personal interest, and camp programs. The Cabin Counselor will reside on-site at The Salvation Army Northern Division Northwoods Camp in Finlayson, MN for the duration of their temporary employment during summer camp. $350-$450 stipend 60402 Elbow Lake Rd, Finlayson, MN 55735 Essential Functions (approximate time spent) Supervise and lead an assigned group of campers in daily activities (classes, free time, meals, programming) (25%). Support campers in following rules and expectations, providing guidance and positive reinforcement and assisting with accountability (25%). Monitor campers and program areas, ensuring the health and safety of all (25%). Develop and maintain positive rapport with campers and colleagues, teach and model positive relational skills to campers (10%). Support and actively participate in all assigned camp programs and activities (10%). Attend spiritual activities and facilitate nightly devotions and prayers with assigned campers (5%). Education and Experience Must be at least 18 years of age. High School diploma or equivalent strongly preferred. Experience working with children, preferred. Must have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and be willing to participate in religious activities. Must pass background checks. Competencies Flexible interpersonal and communication skills. Self-starter with good attention to detail and initiative. Works with integrity, valuing honesty and diligence. Working Conditions Must be able to attend staff orientation week. Room and Board provided in addition to a biweekly stipend. Required to live on-site at Northwoods camp during the summer. Position is seasonal, approximately mid-June through July, includes nights and weekends. Perform all physical aspects of the position, including being mobile, bending, reaching, and lift 25 pounds occasionally. Must be able to fully participate in activities and events (outdoors and indoors). Camp environment; not eligible for a remote-friendly work environment. Must be able to communicate clearly in English and work in person. Supervisory Responsibilities None. Travel Requirements None.
