Job Description:
Job Summary
The UAS Strategy and RDT&E Supervisor position is responsible for research, development, testing and evaluation for UPS Flight Forward. He/She manages projects, vendor relationships, conducts analysis and testing of UAS and enabling technologies. The supervisor develops and communicates project plans to Stakeholders, Cross Functional Teams and UPSFF Leadership to provide long-term strategy. This position develops specification, requirement and capability testing evaluations used to update the UPSFF use case strategy and validate economic sustainability. This position focuses on the UAS aircraft, systems and enabling technologies required to scale UPSFF operations.
Other Duties
Evaluates UAS capabilities and provides inputs to financial modeling tools.
Provides detailed research and recommendations on UAS and enabling technology vendors that support our company direction and goals.
Participates in industry conferences, webinars and meetings to stay current on UAS developments and represent UPSFF interests. Also participates in regulatory reviews, meetings and events to understand the continuous changing landscape in the emerging industry. Provides feedback on NPRM (Notice Proposed Rule Making) legislation and its impact on UPSFF.
Preferred Competencies
UAS Industry experience working with UAS and enabling technologies
UAS educational background is preferred
Assesses Business Needs: Demonstrates a general understanding of ways to identify and measure the current needs of the customer or business; uses the business need to help define the project’s requirements
Project Planning: Demonstrates an understanding of basic project planning processes, including planning action items and resources
Estimation and Forecasting Knowledge; Demonstrates a general understanding of common estimation and forecasting techniques; identifies items that require estimation; identifies relevant data sources; identifies general trends in relevant data
Processes Analysis: Identifies processes to analyze and evaluate capability studies; understands the steps in analysis of data related to people, technology, or information
Minimum Qualifications:
Engineering and/or Aviation experience within UAS Industry
FAA Remote Pilot Certificate
FAA Third Class Medical Certificate
Pre-employment drug test and post-employment random drug test required
Valid driver’s license required
Minimum of 6 months of aviation experience; Unmanned Aircraft Experience and/or Manned (Rotary or Fixed Wing)
Basic Qualifications:
Must be a U.S. Citizen or National of the U.S., an alien lawfully admitted for permanent residence, or an alien authorized to work in the U.S. for this employer.

Must be currently located in the same geographic location as the job or willing to relocate yourself
Must have a Bachelor’s Degree (or internationally comparable degree) or be a current UPS employee with three years of UPS experience
Must have experience using Microsoft Office Suite Products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook)
