Summary: The Peer Mentors at the Youth Innovation Center will play a pivotal role in empowering and mirroring their experiences as a peer to the youth and teens of the center through both one-on-one and group mentoring opportunities. Through this role, we aim to foster a sense of “mattering” within our youth, ensuring they feel noticed, needed, and valued in their community. Additionally, Peer Mentors will work to acknowledge the positive traits in youth, helping them understand their significance in aiding others. This role will have a direct impact in shaping the future of our youth, fostering a generation of empowered, confident, and community-engaged individuals.

This is a part time role looking for candidates between the ages of 18-25 years old!

Key Responsibilities:

Mentoring Duties:

  • The Peer mentors Provide both one-on-one and group mentoring to foster personal and collective growth among the youth.

  • Ensure each mentee feels a sense of “mattering,” and their positive traits are acknowledged and celebrated.

  • The Peer mentors Collaborate with the Site Manager and Program Coordinator/s to continuously develop and refine the mentorship program.

  • Follow the program's timeline diligently: Planning, Initiation, Mentoring, and Evaluation stages, ensuring all milestones are reached.

Documentation and Tracking:

  • The Peer Mentors regularly track and record mentor-mentee meetings, ensuring that each interaction aligns with the center's objectives.

  • Monitor and document outcomes and progress of mentees to evaluate the effectiveness of the mentorship and to recommend necessary improvements.

Engagement:

  • Serve as a beacon of guidance and mentorship for the community's youth.

  • Encourage youth to actively participate in community/civic activities and ensure their involvement is consistent and impactful

Operational Management:

  • Assist in managing the day-to-day operations of the Youth Innovation Center.

  • Collaborate effectively with fellow peer mentors, promoting a cohesive work environment.

  • Initiate and attend regular peer mentor leader meetings and training opportunities.

Miscellaneous Duties:

  • Fulfill any other related tasks as requested by the management.

Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree in human services or a related field is preferred; however, a minimum of a H.S. Diploma/GED is mandatory.

  • At least one year of involvement in youth programming and/or mentoring is crucial. Candidates with proven experience in program development and implementation will be favored.

  • Exceptional communication skills.

  • Strong computer and technology skills is preferred, including familiarity with social media.

  • Experience working with local community agencies is beneficial.

  • Must demonstrate the ability to collaborate efficiently as a vital member of a team.

  • Ability to relate empathetically and effectively to individuals across diverse socio-economic and racial/ethnic backgrounds.

  • Background Check: An acceptable CORI (Criminal Offender Record Information) is mandatory for the role.

  • Must have a genuine passion for youth development and bring a proactive approach to the role, ensuring that our youth receive the best support and guidance.

Working Conditions:

Office environment with frequent interactions in community settings.

Flexibility in working hours may be required based on program needs.
