Special Information

  • This position is an on-site position which requires the incumbent to complete their work primarily at the Flagstaff Mountain campus with or without accommodation. Opportunities for remote work are rare.
  • This position is posted as Supplemental Instruction Coordinator, which is a working title. The NAU system title for this position is Academic Success Coordinator, Intermediate.

Job Description

SI is a collaborative program that works closely with faculty and Student Affairs professionals to support students. The SI program serves over 3,000 students in nearly 20,000 visits annually. The Academic Success Coordinator, Int. position is crucial to the operations of the SI program, supervising SI leaders while assisting to guide the goals and objectives of the program to ensure students are gaining the academic skills and knowledge they need to be successful.

Supervision - 50%

  • Select, train, supervise, and evaluate a diverse group of SI leaders.
  • Observe, evaluate and develop accountability for SI leaders in multiple locations across campus.
  • Serve as liaison between SI leaders and faculty members.
  • Assist SI leaders with session scheduling; collaborate with campus departments to arrange facilities for SI sessions.
  • Assist SI leaders with the development of lesson plans, facilitation methods, and classroom management techniques.

Program Coordination - 45%

  • Assist with the coordination of program activities and services of the SI program to ensure that goals and objectives are met.
  • Serve as a liaison for students and other departments within the University.
  • Assist with the design, implementation, and evaluation of services that provide innovative, meaningful and supportive experiences to students that integrate academic learning and individual growth.
  • Help develop, implement, and facilitate SI leader training.
  • Work with a diverse student and employee population using awareness of multicultural issues to support an effective work and service-oriented environment.
  • Facilitate trainings and presentations on the SI program to campus partners.
  • Uphold a high standard of customer service regarding SI program inquiries from students, parents, faculty, staff, etc.
  • Provide administrative support.
  • Assist with database management (TutorTrac, Attendance Tracking).
  • Assist with SI marketing and SI/ASC outreach activities.
  • Assist with attendance tracking and management.
  • Collaborate with faculty, student affairs staff, and other university departments in creating experiences to increase student engagement.
  • Actively engage with diverse student populations in order to ensure that department programs are inclusive and reflect the diversity of the campus community.
  • Represents the department on various committees, work groups and employee forums.

Other - 5%

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associates or undergraduate Bachelor\'s degree.
  • 2-4 years of relevant experience.
  • A y combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with college students in an academic support setting.
  • Knowledge and/or experience working with a Supplemental Instruction program.
  • Understanding of appropriate applied study skills or Supplemental Instruction methodology.
  • Supervision experience preferred.

Knowledge

  • Working knowledge and understanding of student persistence, learning capacities, and skill in designing and implementing valid tools to assess those outcomes.
  • Knowledge of higher education in the areas of academic success initiatives or similar administrative or teaching experience.

Skills

  • Program planning, development, and implementation.
  • Skill in prioritizing and completing multiple tasks of varying complexity and urgency in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
