About the Opportunity

Under the direction of the FSPA Program Director, the FSPA Outreach Instructor will use a variety of teaching methods, lesson plans, and materials for the purpose of improving student knowledge, skills, and/or appreciation of performing arts.

The instructor will teach community outreach classes for a variety of ages (specifically early childhood, elementary/middle school, and senior adult focus) in classroom/group settings at partner organizations in Genesee County, including non-profit and FCS/GISD after-school, weekend, and summer programs. The ideal candidate would be a performing arts "generalist", able to teach classes in music, theatre, and dance/movement for universal/amateur populations. The ability to teach beginner-level instruments (piano, guitar, violin) is a plus.

Some office hours are required in addition to class hours, especially during the summer, to ensure 20 hours per week. Those hours will consist of reporting and working with the Program Director on outreach planning and admin needs.

Specific Responsibilities and Qualifications

Responsibilities

· Maintain knowledge of field of expertise, FSPA curriculums, FSPA teaching methodologies, and other materials to effectively impact students.

o Attend the "Beyond Boundaries" seminar to learn and incorporate the FSPA teaching model into lessons and plans.

o Attend any required FSPA or Community Partner orientations, and FSPA required trainings and professional development sessions.

· Ability to work with staff, students, families, and stakeholders with diverse and wide-ranging cultural, social, and economic backgrounds, including children from low-income and/or disadvantaged households and disabled populations.

· Work effectively with students at varied levels of proficiency. Be a role model and ambassador for FIM FSPA to students, families, and community partner staff.

o Share information and encourage involvement in FSPA Programs, scholarships, and student aid.

· Communicate regularly and maintain an effective working relationship with the FSPA Program Director and Community Partner staff related to assigned classes/programs.

o Work with FSPA Leadership to set class objectives, schedules, and expectations.

o Organize, maintain, and report all necessary records, forms, class reports, schedules, and curriculum. Meet all reporting requirements and deadlines.

o Report any issues (particularly involving student safety) at partner sites to FSPA Program Director immediately. Document any incidents that occur.

§ Perform regular equipment maintenance and inform FSPA Program Director or Community Partner staff if repairs or replacements are needed.

· Follow Community Partner site procedures regarding emergencies, security, student restroom usage, and student absences.

Qualifications

· Reliable transportation

· Able to self-direct with minimal supervision.

· Ability to work non-standard schedule that includes daytime hours M-TH & Sat, and changes between the school year and summer

· Teaching experience in dance, music, and/or theatre.

· Ability to work with diverse populations including low-income and/or disadvantaged households and disabled populations.

Compensation and Benefits:

· Competitive Pay at $46.05 per hour
