Starting Pay: $29.7345 Hourly ($61,848) After 1st Year: $32.1277 Hourly ($66,726) After 2nd Year: $33.2067 Hourly ($69,070) After 3rd Year: $34.3258 Hourly ($71,398) After 4th Year: $35.4805 Hourly ($73,799)
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree in a scientific discipline or criminal Justice -AND- Autopsy Assistant certificate or two (2) years' experience as an autopsy assistant -AND- two (2) years' experience as a medical examiner scene investigator;
-OR-
Associate degree or sixty (60) credit hours in a scientific discipline or criminal Justice *-AND- *Autopsy assistant certificate or two (2) years' experience as an autopsy assistant *-AND- *five (5) years' death scene investigation experience.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: MUST obtain ABMDI (American Board of Medicolegal Death Investigators) certification within two (2) years of employment. MUST obtain the advanced ABMDI (American Board of Medicolegal Death Investigators) certification within 5 (5) years of employment. A typical work schedule will be 40 hours per week during normal business hours. May be required to work weekends, holidays and irregular work hours. Availability for on-call work from home for death scene investigation questions may be necessary.
*JOB SUMMARY: *Conducts and supervises death investigations in cases of fatality where the death occurs outside of medical care, or the death is believed to be due to trauma; conducts death scene investigations, prepares detailed reports related to these investigations' coordinates death-related activities with appropriate medical and law enforcement personnel and provides ongoing training for new death scene investigators as well as acting as a consultative resource for other investigators; also assists in the morgue as an autopsy assistant when directed.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS:
Is the primary scene investigator during business hours and other times as needed; supervises and conducts death investigations in accordance with all federal and state statutes; gathers factual data relating to deceased persons and prepares detailed reports; responds to requests from State and County law enforcement agencies;
Makes death notifications to family members of the deceased, interviews witnesses and relatives of the deceased and takes photographs of death scene; examines deceased for signs of injury or suspicious death; communicates findings at death scene along with history and circumstances of death to the pathologist and receives direction and facilitates necessary pathological examinations, as indicated;
Assists pathologists with daily autops
