Matrix Service is currently looking for Superintendents who have experience building new and/or maintenance/repair with aboveground storage tanks and specialty tank vessels.

  • Must be able travel for extended or short periods of time when the job requires it.
  • Must be able to supervise craft employees on location.

Job Summary

The Superintendent is responsible for supervising craft employees for the aboveground storage tank and specialty vessel business lines.

Essential Functions

  • Actively supports the Company's commitment to safety and its "Core Values."
  • Represents the Company at all times with high moral standards while adhering to the Company's "Code of Business Conduct and Ethics."
  • Plans and supervises work activities. Determines method of construction, safety procedures and requirements, manpower levels, material quantities, equipment, temporary power sources, work schedule and documents actual hours worked.
  • Coordinates assigned work with different crafts, company departments and/or other contractors.
  • Maintains liaison with safety department, engineering, estimating and planning to ensure work complies with safety policies, drawings, specifications and schedules.
  • Assists in resolving construction problems and safety issues, as required.
  • Conducts accident investigations with safety department, as required.
  • Maintains communication with the HR Department to resolve issues of requisitioning required manpower.
  • Monitors craft compliance with project safety program requirements. Documents and ensures corrective measures are implemented.
  • Maintains liaison with other departments (Material Control, Purchasing, Quality Control, and Engineering) to ensure all required materials, equipment, inspections, etc., support craft activities and project schedule.
  • Conducts field safety audits, as required and maintains a complete understanding of Corporate Safety Manual and requirements.
  • Performs additional responsibilities, as directed.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 6 years' experience in storage tank building and maintenance including construction technology, methods, equipment, tools, and work procedures.
  • Minimum 2 years experience supervising field craft employees.
  • 4-year engineering degree or equivalent combination of technical training and experience.
  • Experience working with aboveground storage tanks and specialty vessels is required.
  • Advanced understanding of construction scheduling and cost control.
  • Ability to supervise large groups.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply innovative and effective management techniques to maximize performance.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; good computer skills including MS Word and Excel.
