Army Installation Management Command Public Safety Dispatcher (Office Automation) in Fort Carson, Colorado

The Public Safety Dispatcher at Fort Carson Directorate of Emergency Services provides emergency police, fire and medical services to the public by answering emergency calls and responding with personnel and equipment. Recruitment/Retention Incentive, Relocation Costs and Student Loan Repayment and Salary Negotiation may be authorized. Responsibilities Responsible for the receipt and effective evaluation of 911 emergency calls, to include installation fire, police, ambulance service, emergency medical dispatch, among others. Provide emergency medical dispatching assistance to callers with medical emergencies using the Priority Dispatch EMD system. Monitor and logs status and availability of police, fire and medical first responders to assure an appropriate response are made. Refer non-emergency callers to appropriate civilian and governmental agencies. Perform basic computer and communications equipment troubleshooting to determine problems and notifies appropriate personnel to facilitate repairs. Maintain reports and retrieves needed statistical information using the National Fire Incident Reporting System(s) (NFIRS). Dispatch a variety of emergency response units. Notifies police, fire department staff and other agencies concerning incidents when needed. Provides initial Incident Command support until responding emergency units arrive on scene. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized experience: One year of specialized experience which includes (1) operating automation, emergency dispatching, and communications equipment; AND (2) questioning callers to determine problems and nature of calls to respond with appropriate emergency personnel/equipment; AND (3) accomplishing several tasks at one time such as operating radios, telephones, and typing; AND (4) communicating effectively with police, fire, or medical personnel during emergencies. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). OR Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Emergency Management, Emergency Response, Disaster Management ore related field of study. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages. This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Decision Making Listening Manages and Organizes Information Technical Competence Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-06).
