Air Mobility Command Outdoor Recreation Specialist in Fort Dix, New Jersey

Summary About the position: This position will be assigned to the Dix Outdoor Recreation Facility. Responsibilities The purpose of this position is to plan, develop, conduct and evaluate, to include budgeting, training, and recruiting, recreational programs intended to improve readiness, contribute to high morale, build cohesion and esprit de corps for all authorized patrons. Within overall plans, initiates both new and recurring activities on a regular basis for implementation in a monthly program schedule consistent with established techniques and theories of recreation. Aggressively markets programs using both traditional and innovative marketing strategies. Contacts various members of the military and volunteers to assist in the execution of programs. Identifies needs, prepares and submits operating budget for programs to the Outdoor Recreation Center (ORC) Director, orders and receives program supplies and equipment. Coordinates the details of recurring activities, special events, and joint community undertakings so as to make maximum use of resources. Establishes and maintains an outreach program by working with base leadership to involve squadrons in unit programs as a way to help improve readiness, contribute to higher morale, and help retain highly skilled people and to familiarize leadership with programs being offered that build cohesion and esprit de corps. Develops and provides a professional leisure information brochure on community recreation resources and provides a multimedia presentation updating both on a regular (quarterly) basis. Provide other base human service agencies (e.g. family support, chaplains, social actions, Family Action Information Board, etc., information on all recreation programs offered by the Force Support Squadron. Collects, maintains and analyzes data on number, type, and frequency of participation by families and squadrons on all base recreation facilities and of programs sponsored by the ORC, in order to justify expansion/contraction of services and to gauge relevancy of program offerings. Ensures leisure interest surveys are administered to all base newcomers and their families. Analyzes survey responses in order to ensure program offerings are aligned with patron needs or desires. Ensures that schedules are followed and participate adhere to rules and relations governing the use of the facility and its equipment sets up for programs by arranging/rearranging areas and following general instructions of the ORC Director. Qualifying Experience: Skill in a range of outdoor activities and services. Skill must have included planning and conducting a variety of recreational activities and services. Knowledge gained through a four (4) year degree in recreation or sports which included programming recreational projects and programs using proper application of the principles, concepts and techniques of outdoor recreational activities may substitute for this experience. In addition, must have knowledge and experience providing computer-based travel reservations and ticketing, including but not limited to money charge orders (MEOS's) and vouchers. Education Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution. FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying. Additional Information Individual must fully meet qualification/eligibility/background requirements for this position.
