Who will you be working with?

Wabtec’s Train Control Office Systems (TCOS) group develops and maintains a suite of products and applications, referred to as Train Management & Dispatch System (TMDS), which provide our customers a comprehensive and integrated set of tools and capabilities to management and control train movements across there rail network. You will be working closely with TCOS Engineering Managers, Software Release Engineers, Development Teams, Product Line Manager and Customers in this role.

How will you make a difference?

As a member of the Train Control Office Systems (TCOS) group/division, you will be the Product Owner for a group of applications which will be a combination of actual products within the TMDS product suite and supporting server-side applications that are key to the integration and overall functionality of the product suite. In this role you will provide the team with a clear and descriptive set of requirements captured as true software requirements, user stories, or defect resolution acceptance criteria. You will partner with the team to determine what can be delivered by balancing the need for new features, defects, and technical debt. As you mature in this role you will provide mentoring and guidance to other product owners in best practices for defining, elaborating, and prioritizing requirements and to system support engineers on the features and functionality of the system.

What do we want to know about you?

You Must Have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, MIS, Product Management or a closely related discipline,

  • A minimum of 4 years experience as a product owner in an agile software development environment or similar role,

  • Proficient in the use of the English language. Ability to negotiate and express themselves in a precise and efficient fashion,

  • A minimum of 3 years experience in requirement development and management,

  • Highly motivated with and ability to work under minimal supervision,

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to interface with senior leadership with confidence and clarity,

  • Ability to develop credibility and strong positive relationships with customers, peers, and managers,

  • Able to work well with global teams, including time-zone flexibility,

  • Skilled in providing oversight and mentoring team members,

  • A deep understanding of system and software requirements definition and management. This set of skills is one of the fundamental core expectations for this role and should include:

  • Requirements elicitation both from a Wabtec external customer and internal customers when dealing with system component integration,

  • System requirements analysis, decomposition and evolution into software-level features, user stories, and acceptance criteria,

  • Requirements validation, verification, and traceability workflow,

  • Document management.

We would love it if you had:

  • Strong Dispatching/Railroad knowledge and experience,

  • Experience with business process analysis (current state, future state, gap analysis),

  • A flair for taking something unstructured or ambiguous and transforming it into clearly understood and documented artifacts

  • Demonstrated understanding and ability to learn detailed technical processes and the connection/dependencies on the type of technology stack the application is being developed on,

  • Familiar/experience in working in an integrated DevOps environment (examples: Azure, Rally etc.),

  • Familiar/experience with middleware messaging systems, microservices, SQL / No SQL Database,

  • Familiar/experience with networking and data transfer protocols,

  • Familiar/experience with system installation best practices,

  • Familiar with Azure DevOps and Visual Studio,

  • Familiar/experience with Windows, .Net, and Web/IIS configurations.

What will your typical day look like?

  • Daily scrum team meetings with global team

  • On a daily basis, work with scrum team and release engineer on work item priorities and acceptance criteria

  • Partner with product line manager and customer and ensure user stories reflect the expected requirements

  • Partner with product owners managing nearest neighbor components to document and coordinate the ICD requirements with software integrations

  • The employee normally works in a temperature-controlled environment, with frequent exposure to electronic office equipment

  • Wabtec operates in a hybrid model allowing employees to work from home on Monday/Friday and in the office Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.

  • It is expected that schedules are flexible to allow for conference calls and workshops to be held at times that accommodate global team members.

  • Typically this roles does not require significant amounts of travel but is expected to travel for short periods of time when required.

  • The employee is regularly required to talk and hear.

  • Remaining in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods.

  • Communicating with others to exchange information in the English language.
