Summary:

Directs and coordinates activities of workers engaged in repair, maintenance, and installation of equipment associated with the shafts, hoists and surface operations at an underground salt mining facility. Directly supervises 2 to 10 employees in the Maintenance Department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training and development of employees, planning, assigning, and directing work; ensure work is completed on a safe and efficient manner. Ability to work rotating shifts, straight shifts (nights or days) and weekends as business needs require.

Essential Job Functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Supervises activities under their area of responsibility.

  • Assesses employee performance, development, training, and succession management needs in assigned area of responsibility

  • Ability to work with, train and develop direct reports as shaft mechanics

  • Maintain shafts related hoisting equipment.

  • Maintain surface equipment such as conveyors, heavy diesel equipment, light duty equipment, ferry boat, and barge loading facility

  • Assesses ongoing maintenance projects and job orders and determines work priorities

  • Directs maintenance activities and delegates work to crew

  • Ensures safe working conditions and safe work procedures are understood and followed by crew

  • Communicates equipment and job order status to appropriate people and departments

  • Enforces environmental, health, and safety processes in compliance with the law, company policy and objectives

  • Provides technical advice and/or directs mechanics to technical resources

  • Oversees/directs implementation of the Reliable Asset Management program (RAM). Support a maintenance program which is planned, proactive, precision, predictive, and preventative maintenance culture.

  • Controls and/or coordinates the allocation of personnel on shift, equipment and other resources to be the most economical choice and to meet objectives.

  • Recommends strategies that minimize production interruptions and optimize production capacity.

  • Assist reliability department with the development and maintenance of departmental operating instructions and procedures.

  • Enforce and train personnel on production, maintenance, quality and safety standards.

  • Supports positive company interdepartmental relationships.

  • Meets departmental performance expectations targeting the continuous improvement of the work identification, planning, scheduling, work execution, and failure elimination functions of maintenance.

  • Work to continuously improve production capacity by identifying root causes of downtime and implementing action plans to reduce recurrences.

  • Ensure completion of scheduled work orders meeting annual targets.

  • Meets established targets on planned vs. unplanned work, improves mean time between failures on major equipment, improves work order backlog, preventive and predictive maintenance schedule completion (routinely evaluate)

  • Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Education and/or Experience :

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

  • Technical training in mechanical maintenance. Completion of an apprenticeship, technical school or equivalent program.

  • Five years maintenance experience required with direct work experience maintaining shafts, hoisting equipment, conveyance systems, heavy diesel equipment, light duty equipment and a barge loading facility.

  • Heavy industrial maintenance experience will be considered in lieu of heavy diesel and conveyor systems

  • Underground mine experience is required.

  • Computer proficiency Microsoft Office word, excel and CMMS systems.
