Engineering/Planning Technician III
DUTIES AND FEATURES OF THE CLASS:
The incumbent in this class performs a variety of complex technical work involving engineering or planning; reviews and implements area-wide planning studies or performs independent engineering design, inspection and/or surveying. Work is performed both in the field and in the office. Work is performed independently under general supervision of the Department Manager/Director or their designee.
EXAMPLES OF WORK:
Reads and interprets plans, specifications and related documents; copies maps and charts as required; utilizes computer software; provides technical assistance to consulting engineers, developers, coworkers and the general public; participates in meetings and public workshops.
Planning:\ Participates in planning projects and studies and in their implementation; coordinates the extension of sewer and water districts; participates in the organization of new and expanded sanitary sewer districts; reviews sewer concept plans.
Engineering:\ Designs/reviews engineering projects, alignments, profiles, studies and related documents; compiles and records test results, notes and sketches to document compliance and/or develops designs, specifications, maps and other geographically based data; reviews/prepares payments to contractors and consultants; performs detailed reviews of manuals, specifications and other documents.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of the principles and practices of civil engineering, knowledge of County ordinances, policies and procedures as well as state and county laws and regulations; ability to perform mathematical calculations and use engineering formulas; ability to operate office equipment and generate drawings; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, contractors/consultants, Federal and
State agencies and the general public; ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and blueprints.
