The Walt Disney Company Director, Strategy & Planning in Glendale, California

The Strategy and Planning Team collaborates with executive leaders in Disney Consumer Products (DCP) to set objectives, goals, strategies, and measures that drive the business, creating a clear path from strategy to execution and transformational results.

The Director of Strategy and Planning will play a pivotal role in supporting our licensed business – Global Brand Commercialization (GBC). This role is fully dedicated to the GBC business and will partner specifically with the Executive Vice President of GBC to establish key strategic priorities, and identify, evaluate, and pursue opportunities. Additionally, the Director will oversee the successful completion of projects, ranging from simple to complex, and support operations across various functions, including by franchise, category, channel, and region. The Director will also drive automation, process improvement, and optimization to ensure teams operate effectively and efficiently. This role carries significant responsibility for understanding, articulating, and executing key initiatives and projects while serving as a trusted advisor to the head of GBC.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Executive Vice President of GBC in facilitating the execution of priorities through coordination, communications, and detailed project management

  • Set direction and drive creative solutions to ensure business objectives align with the strategic vision

  • Lead operational integrations, activations, solutions, and strategic initiatives with a global mindset

  • Proactively identify and evaluate strategic, operational, and other opportunities in collaboration with key leaders and stakeholders across GBC, DCP, and The Walt Disney Company

  • Coordinate initiatives and tracks results to achieve strategic objectives

  • Drive strategy into action through the long-term planning process with key GBC leaders

  • Oversee the deployment of select transformational initiatives

  • Collaborate on multiple projects at any one time, set and meet deliverable dates, and communicate roadblocks and risks in a timely manner; put in place contingencies for unexpected events

  • Follow-up as needed on strategic opportunities and initiatives to ensure appropriate operationalization and execution

  • Create a workplace environment that encourages collaboration and innovative/creative thinking

Job requirements:

The following experience is required for consideration for this role:

  • 10 years of progressively complex client management experience, with a proven track record of directing teams towards successfully executing strategies and programs

  • Experience in a matrixed organization working with multiple leadership teams and stakeholders

  • Experience working with executive-level contributors and stakeholders, including excellent executive level presentation skills

  • Demonstrated versatility and adaptability to work across a broad variety of functions

  • Works under tight timetables, in high-pressure situations, and adapts to priority changes

  • Focuses on developing creative solutions with a nimble business mindset

  • Comfortably communicates with executives (VPs, SVPs, EVPs) in presentations, working sessions, and 1-on-1 interactions

Additional information:

This position is available to be based in Glendale, CA or Orlando, FL.

The hiring range for this position in California is $180,100 to $241,500 per year, and $171,500 to $230,000 per year for Florida. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
