UNC Health Care RN Nurse Educator II in Goldsboro, North Carolina

Summary:

The Nurse Educator serves as an instructor to teammates, new hires and students in a hospital setting. Leads and facilitates a variety of classes, in-services, new hire orientation, and competency validation activities to meet the learning needs of the organization. Creates a supportive climate to promote adult learning while ensuring quality patient services, maintenance of organizational standards, and continuity of patient care in a cost-effective manner.

Schedule: 8-5 Monday through Friday. May have some evening or weekend courses occasionally.

Responsibilities:

1.Leads clinical, nursing, nursing assistant, and traveler orientation.

2.Teaches AHA courses including BLS, PALS, and ACLS classes.

3.Serves as AHA Affiliate Faculty, and teaches AHA instructors.

4.Teaches other classes as needed.

5.Assists with student contracts, clearance, onboarding, and orientation.

6.Assists with hospital programs, including but not limited to RN extern program, RN Residency program, job shadowing by students or employees, and career development for employees.

7.Leads preceptor training programs.

8.Assists with competency management. Assists with building/updating competencies. Documents competencies consistent with regulatory and hospital standards. Serves as a resource to preceptors and others involved in competency validation.

9.Assists other instructors and educators using simulation for teaching.

10.Informs leadership of issues and/or opportunities for education.

11.Promotes educational programs and learning opportunities for all teammates.

12.Anticipates future learning needs; uses resources effectively to improve future training results.

13.Uses current clinical skills and principles of adult learning to maximize knowledge transfer.

14.Role models core nursing principles such as Infection Control and age-appropriate/culturally sensitive care in all instruction and interactions.

Other information:

Education

Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing required.

Master’s Degree preferred.

Licensure/Certification

Current RN licensure in North Carolina.

Certified as an Instructor for BLS, ACLS, and PALS.

Experience

Minimum three years nursing experience with at least two years of recent clinical nursing experience required.

Prior experience teaching adult learners.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

•Knowledge of adult learning theory or teaching techniques.

•Proven clinical skills in a hospital setting.

•Strong presentation and interpersonal skills to create an effective learning environment.

•Excellent time management and organizational skills.

•Ability to work independently and/or under pressure.

•Effective problem-solving skills.

•Proficient with MS Office and able to learn new software rapidly.

•Ability to operate audiovisual equipment and related tools.

•Is physically able to instruct and deliver assigned courses.

Valid NC Driver’s License: No

If driving a Wayne UNC Vehicle, must be 21 years old and MVR must be approved by Risk Management.
