What you will do

Mack Trucks & Volvo Trucks North America (VTNA) are looking for a Compliance Officer & Commercial Legal Counsel to join our Legal & Compliance team based in Greensboro, North Carolina. This is a new position primarily dedicated to compliance. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to play a pivotal role in shaping the governance structures and the organizational direction of the compliance function. Far from routine, this position will interact directly with senior executives, and drive our compliance agenda while aligning with our broader business objectives. This is how you could make an impact

  1. Compliance Management:

• Provide guidance and training to employees on compliance-related matters.

• Lead the Mack Trucks and VTNA compliance committee.

• Further develop, implement, and oversee the implementation of Mack Truck’s and VTNA’s compliance programs to ensure adherence to relevant laws, regulations, and internal policies.

• Develop and propose compliance governance structures within Mack Trucks and VTNA to ensure effective implementation and risk management.

• Support and develop activities to facilitate compliance leadership and tone from the top.

• Report on compliance activities and KPIs.

• Conduct regular audits and assessments to identify compliance risks and areas for improvement.

• Collaborate cross-functionally with other Volvo Group compliance officers and Volvo Group business areas to address compliance issues and implement corrective actions.

  1. Compliance Leadership Team:

• Serve as Mack Truck’s and VTNA’s representative on the Volvo Group’s global Compliance Leadership Team’s (CLT).

• Represent Mack Truck’s and VTNA’s interest and act as the first point of contact for the CLT.

• Participate in scoping of compliance training and communication strategy.

• Support the development of the Volvo Group’s compliance training strategy and coordinate its implementation.

• Participate in best-practice sharing

  1. Regulatory Compliance:

• Stay abreast of changes in laws, regulations, and industry standards relevant to our business operations.

• Interpret regulatory requirements and assess their impact on company policies and procedures.

• Liaise with regulatory agencies and external legal counsel as necessary to address compliance inquiries and issues.

  1. Legal Counsel Activities:

• Review, draft, and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements, including but not limited to NDAs, sales agreements, terms and conditions of sale, dealer agreements, telematic service agreements, and customer contracts.

• Draft dealer policies and bulletins.

• Provide legal advice and support to the business areas relating to competition law, anti-corruption, privacy, and export control.

• Handles other tasks as assigned.

Who are you?

You will hold a Juris Doctorate from an Accredited Law School and hold a license to practice law in at least one state. You will have a minimum of 5 years prior legal and compliance experience as a compliance officer or as in-house counsel. You will have subject matter expertise in one or more of the following areas (and have experience or familiarity with all): competition law, anti-corruption law, privacy law and/or export control law. Experience in the transportation industry or with automotive or heavy truck products work is a plus.

Additionally, this is a hybrid role based in Greensboro, NC, USA, with occasional domestic and international travel required.

Reports to General Counsel Mack Trucks/Volvo Group North America.
