Vontier Payroll Manager - North America in Greensboro, North Carolina

This is a Hybrid position out of Greensboro, NC

Gilbarco Veeder-Root is seeking a Payroll Manager to oversee our North American payroll operations supporting employees geographically disbursed across the US and Canada with key hubs in Greensboro, NC, Altoona, PA, Atlanta, GA, Janesville, WI and Houston, TX. The ideal candidate will ensure accurate and timely payroll processing, enhance the employee experience through exceptional customer service, and maintain rigorous compliance with all relevant legislation. With a focus on KPI deployment, tracking, and advancement, as well as continuous process improvement, the Payroll Manager will play a vital role in the financial integrity and operational efficiency of the payroll function.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and train payroll staff, overseeing relationships with payroll service providers in partnership with Corporate parent (Vontier).

  • Oversee payroll processing for North American employees, ensuring accuracy, compliance with all regulations, and timeliness.

  • Ensure compliance with the Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX) and maintain proper internal controls over the payroll function to meet audit standards.

  • Collaborate with HR, finance, and operating entities to align payroll processes with business goals.

  • Develop and monitor KPIs related to payroll processing, identifying opportunities for strategic improvements and efficiency gains.

  • Have a firm knowledge of payroll tax and how to process state registrations, 941’s, amendments, and adjustments.

  • Stay up to date with changes in payroll and tax laws and implement necessary updates to payroll systems and processes.

  • Ensure exceptional accuracy of transactions, payroll and related payments such as restricted stock units, relocation, tax calculations and filings, and year-end activities including W2s.

  • Lead continuous process improvement initiatives to optimize payroll operations and improve the employee experience.

  • Address complex payroll issues and inquiries, providing outstanding support to ensure employee satisfaction.

  • Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws and best practices.

  • Facilitate payroll-related audits by providing necessary records and documentation.

  • Manage payroll tax filings, reconciliations, and ensure accurate benefit deductions.

  • Create and enforce payroll policies and procedures that uphold efficiency, customer service, and compliance.

  • Stay current with payroll processing technologies, tax legislation, and industry best practices.

  • Provide payroll information by answering questions and requests from employee base to established service-level standards.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or related field or equivalent experience.

  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation preferred.

  • Minimum of 5-7 years of payroll management experience, including managing multi-state payroll operations.

  • Experience in unionized environments and thorough knowledge of union contracts and their impact on payroll.

  • Familiarity and capability to properly process executive compensation components such as restricted stock units and stock options.

  • Expertise in payroll tax laws and regulations across North America, with a strong understanding of SOX requirements.

  • Proficiency in payroll software (ideally Ceridian Dayforce), time-tracking software (ideally ADP eTime) and the Microsoft Office suite, especially Excel

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.

  • Proven leadership abilities and team management experience.

  • Ability and willingness to collaborate cross-functionally (HR, Corporate Comp/Benefits, Finance)

  • Commitment to excellent customer service with a focus on employee satisfaction.

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

  • Strong time management and prioritization capabilities with ability to juggle multiple commitments across stakeholder population.

  • Flexible and able to persevere in a dynamic environment characterized by frequent change and refinement.
