Job Description Summary
The Onshore Wind Services Systems Engineering team is responsible for the overall systems engineering of projects related to the RePower, PowerUp, and Upgrades of installed wind turbines. We are seeking an experienced Performance Engineer with demonstrated wind turbine power curve design, risk assessment, and power performance test experience.
Roles and Responsibilities
As a Senior Services Performance Engineer, you will:
Ensure that the design of new Services products meets anticipated energy production requirements determined by Product Line for commercially viability
Execute wind turbine system simulations to generate expected power curves based on inputs from across the design teams and prepare customer-facing documentation
Identify, quantify, communicate, and determine plans to mitigate power performance risk for Services products to the design team, program management, leadership, and other functions
Maintain a lifecycle view of power performance for Services products from early requirements definition to validation to fleet operating experience
Work cross-functionally with the design team to understand turbine operation design and changes that would impact power performance
Work with the Services Power Performance Test Lead to ensure contractual performance tests meet commercially issued power curves, obtain feedback from field testing experiences and incorporate lessons learned
Interface with various power performance stakeholders, but internally and externally. Demonstrate clear technical communication to various audiences.
Provide troubleshooting support for performance issues for Services products escalated by the Fleet Reliability Operations teams
Drive simplification and standardization of best practices into engineering analyses, validation, and design execution
Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering from an accredited university or college
Minimum of 3 years of demonstrated experience working on wind turbine power performance
Minimum of 5 years of demonstrated experience in engineering
Strong ability to assess and manage risk
Significant experience in working with wind turbines, strong understanding of turbine dynamics and operation, understanding of impact of environmental conditions such as air density and turbulence on wind turbine performance
Strong ability to obtain, filter, visualize, and draw conclusions from data using Excel, MATLAB, Python, or similar tools
Experience with wind turbine simulation using software such as Flex5, Bladed, Adams, or Simpack
Ability to break down ambiguous problems, brainstorm solutions, and put together a team of stakeholders to resolve issues
Attention to detail and able to follow structured work methods
Proven leadership capability
Strong quality and safety awareness
Excellent written and verbal communications skills at various levels of the business and with external parties
Team player who can work with multicultural, cross-functional teams
