Minimum Qualifications Candidates must possess a NYS Professional Engineer License and current registration. In order to be eligible to be considered for appointment, candidates must be reachable from the Civil Service List for this position or be eligible for transfer in accordance with Civil Service Law.
Duties Description Assistant to the Resident Engineer works under the direction of the Resident Engineer and support the management of their maintenance organization. Duties include, managing maintenance contract work, reviewing, and processing highway work permits, procuring goods and services, enforcing Department Policies, and serving in emergency operation roles. A significant amount of contact with the public is required. Assistant to the Resident Engineer is also directly involved with facility safety, inventory control, petroleum bulk storage administration, environmental regulatory compliance administration, herbicide programs, asset condition assessments, preparing specifications and details for maintenance contract work, and various other tasks that may be assigned. For this position, as a professional engineer, you will assist in additional duties that will be fully discussed at the interview.Responsibilities may include serving a role within the Incident Command System to support the department’s response to regional and statewide emergency situations.
