In this position, you will provide support to a bridge inspection team leader by assisting with various technical duties related to the inspection of bridges and other structures. This includes conducting safety inspections on existing bridges, examining structural components such as concrete footings, steel beams, and timber construction, and assessing the condition of bridge features like expansion devices and safety parapets. You will also be responsible for inspecting bridges for damage, wear, and corrosion, as well as measuring bridge members, recording deterioration, and rating components.

Additionally, you will play a role in preparing detailed inspection reports that document the current condition of bridges and identify any deficiencies. This will involve compiling information, taking photographs, reviewing sketches, and summarizing the findings of the inspection. You will also assist in conducting underwater inspections, crane inspections, and deck surveys, as well as maintaining accurate records of inspections using various tools and software systems.

It is important that you have a strong understanding of the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) coding requirements and are able to maintain the necessary documentation for all state-owned structures. You will have the opportunity to interact with various stakeholders, including Department staff, federal and local agencies, legislators, and the general public, to ensure effective project administration. Additionally, you will be responsible for maintaining and organizing inspection equipment and adhering to a two-year inspection cycle.

Work Schedule and Additional Information: Full-time employment Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. Vendor-controlled position. Check your email, including spam/junk folders, for these notices.   REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: One year as an Engineering Technician (commonwealth title); or Two years as a Transportation Technician or Construction Cost Technician 1 (commonwealth titles); or Three years of experience in highway or bridge surveying, design, construction, or inspection work; or Three years of experience in quality control of materials or building or construction industry experience, which includes reading and interpreting blueprints, plans, or schematics; or One year of construction inspection experience, and an associate's degree in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, geotechnical engineering, surveying engineering technology, or a closely related engineering technology; or An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirement: This position requires possession of an active non-commercial Pennsylvania Class C Driver's License or equivalent. Other Requirements: You must meet the PA residency requirement.
