    THE ROLE:

    The Durational Program Associate 1-Office of the Arts roles will have an immediate impact on DECD’s Office of the Arts, by supporting the administration of federally-funded grants, including grant management, customer service, reporting, and evaluation. The ideal candidates will have proven success in public sector grants management.

    POSITION HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Durational for up to two years

  • Monday-Friday

  • Full-time (40 hours per week)

  • First shift

  • Location: 450 Columbus Blvd, Hartford, CT, centrally located alongside the Connecticut River with walkable access to museums, a science center, and great restaurants

  • Hybrid work environment (combination of on-site and remote work)

    NOTE: Applicant will be initially placed in a vacancy under durational appointment with an anticipated end date of two (2) years from the start date. This appointment may be extended. Benefits and leaves will be subject to the appropriate collective bargaining contract language and Connecticut General Statutes.

    PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

    In the Department of Economic and Community Development this class is accountable for independently performing a full range of tasks in the development, implementation, coordination and/or evaluation of programs for the encouragement of artistic and cultural activities.

    EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

  • Develops, implements, evaluates and/or coordinates cultural programs in areas of music, theater, dance, painting, sculpture, architecture, literature, films and allied arts and crafts;

  • Develops publications related to culture and tourism programs;

  • Prepares grant agreements between agency and clients;

  • Prepares reports on culture and tourism programs;

  • May prepare and edit material for release to the public;

  • May represent the agency at meetings of professional organizations and participate in meetings of the agency and its committees;

  • Performs related duties as required.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

  • Knowledge of

  • principles and practices in arts administration;

  • grant preparation;

  • applicable art discipline, such as painting, sculpting or film;

  • Skills

  • interpersonal skills;

  • oral and written communication skills;

  • Ability to

  • develop, implement and evaluate arts programs;

  • coordinate arts programs;

  • evaluate and report on programs in progress;

  • utilize computer software.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE

    Two (2) years of professional level experience in general arts administration or the management or production of arts programs.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED

  • A Bachelor's degree may be substituted for one (1) year of the General Experience.

  • A Master's degree in a closely related field may be substituted for the General Experience.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience managing grant applicants using grant-specific software or Microsoft Excel

  • Prior work in any capacity with the Department of Economic and Community Development

  • Experience using data to analyze and present information

  • Experience with project management

    SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Incumbents in this class may be required to travel.

  • Incumbents in this class may be required to possess and retain a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's license.
