The Public Health Program Coordinator for the WIC Program is responsible for planning, implementation, and evaluation of processes for the WIC program under the delegation of the WIC Supervisor. This position assists in integrating research and best practices into specific program areas and provides program consultation to internal staff and external partners. The WIC Coordinator has considerable knowledge of and skill using the WIC Information System, Participant Centered Services, and has completed lactation related training. In addition, this position requires knowledge of WIC program federal regulations and information found in the Minnesota Operations Manual. The WIC Coordinator will provide direct client services to WIC families in clinic as needed. Location & Schedule This hybrid position offers telework and in-person work at our Western Service Center in Apple Valley, MN, and department representation throughout Dakota County. Work is performed Monday through Friday during regular business hours (8:00am to 4:30pm). What You ll Do As a Public Health Program Coordinator, you will: Promote a diverse, inclusive, culturally competent, and respectful workplace. Work closely with WIC Supervisors to ensure community and staff needs and State/Federal WIC regulations are being met. Develop program strategies, identify health trends, and analyze program data and outcome information. Coach and mentor staff to support assessment skill building, risk evaluation and assignment, nutrition practice knowledge and decision-making, and appropriate documentation. Support staff in day-to-day operations to ensure excellent customer service and workflow. Participate in emergency preparedness training, exercises, and responses. Participate in other public health initiatives or committees. Duties & Responsibilities These examples do not include all possible tasks in this work and do not limit the assignment of related tasks in any position of this classification. Regular attendance according to the position's management approved work schedule is required for all positions. 1. Coordinate assigned policy and program planning process to implement WIC policies, procedures, guidelines and grant deliverables to achieve program objectives and outcomes. 2. Provide consultation to community agencies, medical providers, community groups, systems, and the public to assure at-risk population receives program services. 3. Develop, coordinate and conduct program evaluation and provide future programming strategies and recommendations for services. Includes interpretation, analysis and presentation of program data. 4. Lead training and orientation efforts for WIC staff, public health staff and students 5. Lead staff coaching and mentoring activities to support integration of WIC communication and assessment skills into practice, documentation to support continuity of care and shared case management needs, risk evaluatio and assignment, nutrition practice knowledge and decision-making, aligning practices to WIC federal regulations and Minnesota Operations Manual for WIC programs 6. Coordinate quality assurance activities-peer chart audits, chart audits, staff observations, and monitoring compliance with policies and procedures. 7. Coordinate day to day program operations with Supervisor and Administrative Specialist to assure workflow and client services are met. 8. Develop and complete reports, plans, grant applications, forms, and communication tools as delegated. 9. Represent the Department and County to the public, and to internal and external work groups and organizations. 10. Performs public health emergency response functions as trained and assigned within the department's emergency response plan. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1-10 Knowledge, Skills & Abilities and Work Environment Considerable knowledge of public health nutrition, dietetics, adult learning principles, readiness to change theory and their application to practice in a diverse setting Sound judgment and decision-making skills with confidence and ability to make, communicate, and execute independent decisions quickly and effectively Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, rules, regulations, and policies pertaining to public health and to professional practice and program area, including data privacy regulations Comprehensive knowledge of computer software and information systems used to support client services, data analysis, and reporting Knowledge and working skill in program evaluation, data collection, documentation of progress, and outcomes of public health programs Ability to present information and ideas accurately with experience in public speaking and presentations; strong written and verbal communication skills Ability to work in a collaborative environment with multiple disciplines and levels of government Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks as well as numerous team members Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work with others as a team by establishing a positive work environment Ability to approach unique and unusual situations with timely and creative solutions WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed in a hybrid environment via telework and in a County office building. Some travel is required. Moving or transporting of items up to 20 pounds on an occasional basis is required. Exposure to challenging and potentially violent and unpredictable clients and family members and to hazardous materials such as chemicals, blood, and other body fluids may occur. Equipment used may include, but is not limited to, computer, printer, calculator, phone, copy and fax machine.
