Kaiser Permanente Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant, Neurointerventional in Hillsboro, Oregon

Job Summary:

Provide high quality health care to Kaiser Permanente members in a cost effective manner and in accordance with accepted professional practice standards under the supervision of a Northwest Permanente (NWP) physician.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Provide inpatient care by rounding on neurovascular patients during weekdays and/or weekends. Provide inpatient consultations, rounding on inpatients in both Critical Care Unit and on other units as necessary. Responsibilities include writing pre and post-procedural orders, charting follow-up notes, changing dressings, removing sutures. Dictate all discharge summaries and write discharge orders for follow-up care in the clinic. Hand off patients to the clinic staff for transition of care or follow patients in the clinic as directed by supervising physician. The above care must be documented in writing in patients permanent medical record in accordance with accepted medical/legal standards. All medical care must be provided in accordance with accepted practice standards, hospital/clinic protocols (including supervision by a physician) and State licensing guidelines.

  • Provide direct assessment, diagnosis and formulation/implementation of treatment plan for patients presenting for Interventional Neurovascular care. Outpatient and inpatient responsibilities include consultations, histories and physicals, procedural exams, performing procedures, ordering diagnostic studies and medications, screening referrals, scheduling of procedures and procedure follow-up. Handling patient inquiries regarding pre-procedural, intra-procedural and post-operative/procedural care and education of patients and/or their families/caregivers.

  • Provide procedural services as a first assistant as needed. Performs other duties as requested.

Education

  • Graduate of AMA-approved Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner training program or equivalent requirements to meet State licensure.

License, Certification, Registration

  • This job requires credentials from multiple states. Credentials from the primary work state are required before hire. Additional Credentials from the secondary work state(s) are required post hire.

  • Nurse Practitioner License (Oregon) within 6 months of hire AND Nurse Practitioner National Certificate AND Registered Nurse License (Oregon) within 6 months of hire AND Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner License (Washington) within 6 months of hire AND Registered Nurse License (Washington) within 6 months of hire

    OR

  • Physician Assistant License (Oregon) within 6 months of hire AND Physician Assistant National Certificate AND Physician Assistant License (Washington) within 6 months of hire

  • National Provider Identifier required at hire

  • Drug Enforcement Administration Registration

  • Basic Life Support

Additional Requirements:

  • Acute inpatient experience; experience managing high risk patients with neurologic disease, including ICU, ED and inpatient stroke unit.

  • Experience and training in critical care or experience with care of patients with emergent neurological/neurosurgical disease.

  • Experience with pre-op evaluation and post-op management of patients undergoing neurointerventional radiology procedures.

  • Working knowledge of state health care laws, licensing board regulations and controlled substance regulations.

  • Exposure to the triage and management of patients with acute stroke.

  • Knowledge of neurophysiology and anatomy, including cerebral vasculature and intracranial pressure.

  • Ability to assess, diagnose and plan effective treatment for neurovascular diseases.

  • Excellent procedural assistant skills, especially with neurointerventional procedures.

  • Ability to use appropriate procedural/testing equipment, to see large volume of patients, and to interface with physician and support staff.

  • Ability to apply radiation safety techniques.

  • Compact License is acceptable in lieu of a Washington RN license.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum two (2) years clinical experience with the periprocedural management in the neurovascular interventional radiology setting.

  • Experience working as an advanced practice provider in a dedicated neurosciences intensive care unit.

  • Advanced training in critical care.

  • This position will be five 8- hour shifts.
