GENERAL OVERVIEW:

Under the general direction of the Medical Director of the Antimicrobial Stewardship Program (ASP) and Division Director of the Division of Infectious Disease, supports requests for data through the TheraDoc clinical surveillance software system, Epic Electronic Health Record, and other hospital information systems. This includes facilitating activities to improve patient safety and optimal clinical outcomes; extracting data, performing data entry and creating databases; implementing security measures for the data, providing advanced level reporting and analyses; designing and implementing reports, analyzing data, and monitoring statistical information. This is primarily a remote role but the person will be required to come into the office occasionally each

week.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Tracks all pertinent data requests in order to best manage time spent in data processing. Communicates with all requestors on a regular basis to update them on the status of their requests. Examples of pertinent data requests include:-Calculating antimicrobial usage via Days of Therapy (DOTs) per 1000 patient days and Defined Daily Doses (DDDs) per 1000 patient days for targeted antimicrobials-Reporting antimicrobial usage data by hospital unit and by specified indications-Entering antimicrobial usage data into CDC’s Antibiotic Use and Resistance module-Collaborating with the Microbiology Laboratory to provide sophisticated antibiograms with antimicrobial susceptibilities provided by hospital and by unit as well as combination antibiograms-Collaborating with Informatics on Epic builds for ASP initiatives-Collaborating with Epic Reporting Team to build and extract reports in Epic for ASP initiatives and queries-Assisting with data acquisition, creation of electronic data collection tools, manual data entry, and data collation for ASP projects to support ASP studies and manuscripts (20%)

  • Reviews each informatics request carefully to determine the feasibility of the completion of the request, clarifying any additional information that is needed. This is particularly important when the initial request is narrow in its scope, and may be best analyzed using additional information. (20%)

  • Participates in the various informatics programs for the Antimicrobial Stewardship Program and Division of Infectious Disease by (1) working collaboratively to meet the needs of all staff related to these requests; (2) running program queries that answer questions on the usage of pharmaceuticals and other medical data; (3) developing, in a collaborative effort, effective methods of analyzing all data sources and warehousing available throughout the health system. (20%)

  • Maintains current industry knowledge and trends, attends educational events, acquires certification, and participates in committee work as appropriate. Applies material and methods learned to the programs and committees in the department as well as participates in the implementation of the appropriate action plans. (20%)

  • Serves as a role model for excellent customer service by responding to the needs of the customer constructively. (20%)

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum

  • Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management, Health Information Systems, Statistics, Business, or a Science or Clinical degree with experience in data development and analysis

Preferred

  • Master’s degree

  • EPIC certified

  • Experience in Information Systems, Data warehouse applications, Microsoft Office applications (MS Word, MS PowerPoint, MS Access, and MS Excel)

  • At least 3 years’ data/business analysis experience

  • Experience with Structured Query Language (SQL)

  • Experience in clinical pathways or performance improvement

  • Experience with statistical analysis

KEY SKILLS:

Strong data management and technical skill are required. Must be able to independently work and possess the ability to continuously interact effectively with all levels of clients and staff. Must possess the ability to work under pressure and resolve complex problems in timely and efficient manner.
