Regular, Full-Time, RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the University of Hawaii Cancer Center (UHCC), Cancer Biology Program (CBP), located in Honolulu, Hawaii. Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws.

MONTHLY SALARY RANGE: $5,500 - $6,200/Mon.

DUTIES:

Responsible for the direction, planning, and participation in a preclinical research program. Responsible for conducting in vitro and in vivo experiments to

carry out various research projects in inflammatory breast cancer (IBC) and triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC). Conducts the preparation of progress reports and the final report for preclinical research projects. Maintains accurate records and performs data entry. Responsible for ordering, purchasing, maintaining, and inventorying laboratory equipment and supplies.

PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION

Bachelors Degree from an accredited four (4) year college or university

in Natural Sciences or related field.

EXPERIENCE

Three to five (3-5) years of work experience in a clinical or biology research laboratory laboratory, which includes the handling of mice. Includes experience in cell culture and xenograft assays.

KNOWLEDGE

Knowledge of and skills in the basic principles and practices of a clinical or research laboratory. Knowledge of standard laboratory equipment, techniques, and safety procedures. Knowledge of ordering and purchasing of laboratory equipment and supplies. Knowledge of software such as Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.

ABILITIES and SKILLS

Ability to work independently, yet under the direction of a professional staff member, major research activities of a scientific and technical nature. Ability to work with mice. Must not have obvious allergies to rodents or other allergens found in the laboratory animal environment. Post Offer/Employment Condition: Must be able to pass a post offer criminal background check. Must be able to complete the UH Laboratory Safety training within twelve (12) months from the date of hire. Must be able to complete the UH Title IX training within twelve (12) months from the date of hire. Must be able to complete general training on HIPAA and enroll in the Occupational Health and Safety program, which includes completing a health history questionnaire and obtaining medical clearance to work with animals in a vivarium. Must complete Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) Human Subject training within three (3) months from the date of hire. Must complete the online Hazard Communication training immediately after hire or no later than employees initial exposure to hazardous chemicals. Must be able to complete the Office of Research Compliance (ORC) Transportation of Biological Substances training within two (2) weeks from date of hire. Must complete training provided by the Environmental Health and Safety Office (EHSO) for hazardous waste management within two (2) weeks from date of hire. Must be able to complete the UH Information Security Awareness Training (ISAT) within two (2) weeks from date of hire, and re-certify every twelve (12) months.

PHYSICAL/MEDICAL DEMANDS

Able to lift and carry 25 pounds. Ability to handle biological samples, including blood, urine, and exfoliated cells.
