Curia Associate Director, Cell Line Development in Hopkinton, Massachusetts

ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR, CELL LINE DEVELOPMENT in Hopkinton, MA

Curia provides global contract research and manufacturing services to the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries.

The Associate Director, Cell Line Development will provide technical skills and lead a team of scientists in support of biological clinical development programs. In addition, the individual will collaborate closely with analytics, manufacturing, and quality groups as well as clients to help ensure successful delivery of programs. This position is based at Curia Biologics’ manufacturing facility in Hopkinton, MA and reports to the Director of Process Development.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position will train, hire and manage a team of professionals of varying skill levels

Essential Job Duties

  • This role will be a key talent in the CLD (Cell Line Development) department both hands-on and supervisory as subject matter expert.

  • Will lead development and scale-up of mammalian cell culture and harvest process, from seed train to bioreactor harvest, for production of biologics, lead clone selection, and process optimization.

  • Review and approval of relevant documents including protocols and reports, specifications, and comparability protocols, and provide guidance to team on various technical issues.

  • Evaluate and develop new technologies for mammalian cell culture to improve manufacturing processes, increase production efficiency, and reduce cost of goods.

  • Build collaborative relationships with key internal team members, stakeholders (Process Development, Manufacturing, and Quality) and external customers.

  • Develop and characterize high producing stable CHO cell lines suitable for biotherapeutic manufacturing within project timelines.

  • By scientific research improve cell and process productivity.

Education, Experience, Certification and Licensures

  • PhD with 8 years /MS with 12 years/BS with 15 years in a relevant Scientific field with predominant experience in Cell Line Development in biologics drug development.

  • Proven experience working for 5+ years directly on the bench performing operations in cell line development.

  • Multiple years of management experience overseeing staff with a variety of skill and educational levels in CDMO environment.

  • Strong knowledge of both physical analytical procedures (HPLC, ELISA, CE, MS, etc.) as well as binding assays and cell-based biological assays.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Track record of accomplishments in the design, development, and implementation of cell culture processes for protein production.

  • Experience with VIPS® Seeder, Ambr® 15 bioreactor a must.

  • Knowledge of bioreactor process and engineering scaling as well as robust understanding of biochemistry and cell metabolic pathways.

  • Flexible and adaptable in constantly changing environments and growing organization.

  • Maintains extremely high quality and efficiency standards.

  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of a positive team-focused company culture.
