Bloom Academy Family Resource Coordinator in Houston, Texas

Bloom Academy Charter School exists to provide a high quality, rigorous, and joyful educational experience to students in grades kindergarten to fifth grade. We are a new and independent school seeking to add deeply mission aligned, smart, hardworking, and emotionally intelligent people to our founding staff. We opened August 2019 with a cohort of kindergarten and first graders, and will now serve scholars in grades K-5 the 24-25 school year.

The Family Resource Coordinator will play an integral role in establishing relationship with our Parents and Families. Ensuring that they have access to tailored and supportive resources through Bloom Academy's Student Support Program.

The Bloom Academy Family Resource Coordinator (FRC)

The Family Resource Coordinator (FRC) is responsible for establishing positive relationships with parents and families to connect them to non-academic supports they may need for children to best achieve academically and personally. The Family Resource Coordinator will have the following key responsibilities:

Responsibilities

Family Engagement

  • Establish positive relationships with parents and families through rapport building and better understand the social/emotional needs Scholars may have.

  • Provide casework services through the exchange of tailored community resources in the form of referrals, application support, and handoffs.

  • Collaborate with campus staff and other supportive personnel in implementing behavior interventions on campus and other campus requested supports.

  • Oversee strategies for truancy prevention in collaboration with the Registrar's office.

  • Make home visits upon request and/or as appropriate, based on collaboration with campus/district staff and in accordance with department guidelines

  • Plan, promote, and implement departmental resource activities and events like clothing and food drives, meet the department events, parent workshops, etc.

  • Support in the implementation of Parent Advisory Council (PAC) meetings and training.

  • Attend Family Conferences to provide and gather information regarding scholar's social/emotional wellness

Administrative Task

  • Collect data and maintain an accurate record of services and goods rendered for analysis and compliance with grant and school standards.

  • Maintain accurate and updated casenotes, contact logs, and client census

  • Make additions to departmental newsletter and other promotional material that showcase happenings.

  • Respond to digital and phone correspondence from families, staff, and other stakeholders within 48 hours.

Other Duties Assigned

  • Arrival duties

  • Classroom and testing support

  • Emergency management support

  • Duties assigned by direct supervisor

Shift and Schedule

  • Monday – Friday, 7:30am – 4:30pm

  • Weekends and Some Evenings As Needed

Position Notice

  • Grant funded position: This position is funded by the Stronger Connections Grant, an external revenue source.

  • This grant funded position commences in July 2024.

  • This position spends 100% of the duty day engaged in Social Emotional activities with students and other Stronger Connection Grant allowable activities.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree social work, psychology, education, or related field

  • One year of relevant experience in social services or education.

  • Deep alignment with the school's mission and core values.

  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule including some weekends.

  • Must have a valid driver's license and automobile insurance as required by law and comfort transporting students and families.

  • A staunch belief that all students regardless of race or socio-economic status can achieve at high levels and be positive contributors to their communities.

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines

  • Open and receptive to feedback about performance and self-reflective about ways to improve.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs Canva and social media platforms (Instagram, ClassDojo & Facebook).

  • Knowledge of office equipment and services including computers, printers, copiers, fax machines, phones, and software.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to build and maintain positive rapport with all school stakeholders on and off campus.

  • Family and student centered strengths based perspective, can-do, team first, “glass half full” attitude. Innovative, thoughtful, question-asking intellect. Always looking for ways to do things better, faster, in a more user-friendly fashion. Eager to contribute to an intellectual environment in which the best idea always wins.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in social work, counseling, or a related field; A combination of Bachelor's degree and 7+ years of experience in the social service or education field.

  • Facilitation and training experience

  • Previous Case Management, Counseling/Social Work experience

  • Experience in an urban school setting as a classroom teacher or direct classroom support

  • Entrepreneurial minded
