This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Gulf Region Market Leader based out of our Houston, Texas office. Be a key leader within WSP USA’s Energy team ranked #9 on ENR’s 2024 engineering list for the Power sector (and #5 overall), strategically focused on meeting our client’s objectives and solving their challenges within the Energy Transition.

WSP USA has an exciting opportunity to play a key leadership role in and expand WSP's Energy engineering team in the US market with Texas/Louisiana as a focal point. This is an operational role responsible for team engagement, growth, and performance with market sector focus on decarbonization opportunities primarily related to hydrogen and carbon capture but also extending to other more traditional power and energy needs associated with the Energy Transition such as electrification, renewables, and power delivery.

Your Impact

  • Clients

  • Drive performance of the WSP’s Energy business within the noted geographic area and strategically grows our market share in key, emerging market sectors.

  • Partner with WSP Market Segment Leaders (e.g., Hydrogen, Carbon Capture, Electrification & DER (Distributed Energy Resources), Power Delivery, Environmental), participating in strategy formation and business development.

  • Represent WSP as the “face of the company” locally and across the US (when necessary) with clients, industry, and within WSP.

  • Bring an expanded view and integrated response to complex challenges by leveraging our full suite of offerings across all end markets.

  • Utilize our extended reach of technical and subject matter experts (SMEs) across the US and globally to foster new and innovative client delivery.

  • Serve as a local business leader within the Energy Sector located in the Texas/Louisiana geography, and work with designated Team Leads, other local/regional WSP leaders, and the National Energy Team to attract the best industry talent by fostering a work environment that is collaborative, values inclusion and diversity and invites broad, creative thinking – crafting a more attractive place to work, grow and thrive.

  • Operational Excellence

  • Collaborate with leadership to strategically drive the business, assess and suggest improvements for project performance, oversee overhead expenditures, and focus on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs): Sales, Funding, EBITDA, Staff Hiring and Retention, DSO, Utilization, Backlog, Inclusion & Diversity and Guiding Principles.

  • Develop local growth, forecast and business development strategy in collaboration with Team Leads and Leadership.

  • Resolve conflict and other internal/external issues that may arise in the office, amongst WSP’s client base, or on projects.

  • Expertise

  • Because the focus of this role is on decarbonization opportunities in hydrogen and carbon capture with secondary attention to other more traditional power and energy needs associated with the Energy Transition, the ideal candidate for this role brings a strong background in energy infrastructure ideally with expertise in process engineering/projects.

  • Leverage WSP’s broad technical experience to enhance current and new service offerings.

  • Foster the development of new and emerging innovations to remain the trusted thought leaders in our industry.

  • Advance the strategic direction of the region for sustained and continued growth consistent with the strategic plan.

  • Encourage, support and promote the technical and professional development of local WSP staff.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 15 years of experience with a college degree or equivalent experience in the engineering consulting industry with a strong focus/background in the energy, refining or petrochemical value chain or equivalent (e.g., Oil and Gas).

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, or related discipline.

  • Experience in infrastructure planning, design, and delivery, including active involvement in rehabilitation, new design, and construction projects.

  • Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.

  • Demonstrated high-level of self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.

  • Strongly established relevant client relationships and industry contacts in the Houston and broader Texas/Louisiana region.

  • Sound decision-making, strategic and visionary thinking, and creative business development capabilities across a multi-disciplined practice.

  • Occasional travel may be required depending on clients and/or sector activities.
