The HIM Associate at MD Anderson Cancer Center in the Texas Medical Center performs activities associated with the processing, tracking, retrieval, storage, and completion of health information and data. They have a direct impact on the electronic and manual processing of health information throughout MD Anderson Cancer Center.
The Health Information Management (HIM) Department serves a multitude of internal and external clients which include clinical and research faculty, patients and their families, staff employees, students, regulatory and accreditation agencies, third party payers and other patient representatives such as attorneys. Our team focuses on securing and maintaining health information and the management of health care information resources. Accurate, complete, secure patient information is essential to the delivery of safe, effective and reimbursable health care. We ensure that patient information meets regulatory compliance and accreditation standards.

Essential Job Functions:
Retrieves, organizes and maintains all aspects of the manual and electronic medical record. Reviews the medical record for completeness and accuracy in accordance with the rules and regulations of the medical staff and other regulatory standards. Assures timely and accurate maintenance and retention of health information to include manual and electronic. Sorts and organizes health information. Ensures health information is available for patient care, research and reimbursement purposes. Exercises independent judgment related to the retrieval of health information and ensures patient confidentiality. Responsible for the design, execution and effectiveness of internal controls.
EDUCATION:
Required: High school diploma or equivalent.
Preferred: Associate's degree in Health Information Technology or Bachelor's degree in Health Information Management.
EXPERIENCE:
Required: At least four years of general office experience, to include one year of medical records experience. With preferred Associate's degree, two years of general office experience. With preferred Bachelor's degree, no experience required.
OTHER: Must pass pre-employment skills test as required and administered by Human Resources.
