Equipment Mechanic IPerforms repair/maintenance and inspection related work for fleet vehicles and equipment in the Fleet Operations Division Shop or a District Maintenance Section. Work may require maintenance and repair of heavy equipment used in construction of highways/bridges and inspecting work performed by contracted vendors. Work may require contact with other governmental agencies and private contractors. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments, however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.Equipment Mechanic IIPerforms advanced repair/maintenance and inspection related work for fleet vehicles and equipment in the Fleet Operations Division Shop or a District Maintenance Section. Inspects work performed by shop mechanics and contracted vendors. Work may require maintenance and repair of heavy equipment used in construction of highways/bridges. Employees at this level perform independently on assignments, however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.Equipment Mechanic IIIPerforms highly advanced repair/maintenance and inspection related work for fleet vehicles and equipment in the Fleet Operations Division Shop or a District Maintenance Section. Inspects work performed by shop mechanics and contracted vendors. Work may require maintenance and repair of heavy equipment used in construction of highways/bridges. Serves as a lead worker and trains less experienced technicians. Work may require contact with other governmental agencies and private contractors. Employees at this level perform independently on assignments, however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.Essential Duties:Equipment Mechanic IAdjusts brakes and replaces brake system parts to include air brake and anti-locking systems.Analyzes and interprets computerized diagnostic equipment information.Completes repair order paperwork and accurately enters data into fleet information management system.Maintains and repairs heavy equipment used in construction and maintenance of highways/bridges.Checks lighting and wiring mechanisms to ensure proper functioning of headlights, spotlights, taillights and parking lights.Performs preventive maintenance, inspections and repairs on motor vehicles/equipment as required moves items related to these activities.Performs quality assurance/analysis on repaired vehicles and equipment.Prepares vehicles for use by checking for required safety features such as first aid kits, fire extinguishers and mobile radios.Troubleshoots, tests and repairs electrical systems, electronic ignitions and fuel injection systems.Uses computerized diagnostic analyzer systems and performs complex diagnostic work on vehicles/equipment.Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.Equipment Mechanic II/III Includes all essential duties for Equipment Mechanic I as well as:Trains less experienced technicians.Travels and performs work in other shops throughout the state as required.
