Postdoctoral Fellowship in Mechanisms of Heat Shock-induced Cell Death

A funded postdoctoral fellowship is available in the laboratory of Dr. Shawn B. Bratton at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. The project deals with a newly discovered role for the BH3-only protein, Bim, in heat shock-induced cell death. It will be carried out in the Department of Epigenetics and Molecular Carcinogenesis in Houston. The department is one of MD Anderson's largest and most successful fundamental research departments. LEARNING OBJECTIVES

The applicant will be expected to perform in vitro cell culture experiments, including the use of CRISPR-Cas9 gene knock-in/out strategies, lentiviral preparation for gene transduction, recombinant protein purification, flow cytometry, immunoprecipitation/western blotting, and confocal microscopy, as well as the characterization of two novel mouse models recently developed in the laboratory.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

Applicants should have a recent Ph.D. degree in biochemistry or a highly related field, one or more first-authored publications in highly regarded scientific journals, and proven proficiency in written and spoken English. Expertise in mammalian cell culture, lentiviral preparation, DNA plasmid cloning, and Western blotting is essential; and priority will be given to those who likewise possess experience in mouse modeling.

POSITION INFORMATION

MD Anderson offers full-time postdoc positions with a salary ranging from $64,000 to $76,000 (https://trainees.mdanderson.org/apply/mdaPostdoctoralFellowStipendFY24.pdf) . depending on the number of years of postgraduate experience. MD Anderson trainee compensation also includes:
