Description

Growing Manufacturing company in South Houston is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join their team. The Staff Accountant will be responsible for general ledger (GL) accounting tasks, with a particular focus on manufacturing cost accounting. Proficiency in Oracle and strong Excel skills are essential for this role. The successful candidate will play a vital role in maintaining accurate financial records and supporting the overall financial operations of the organization.

Staff Accountant Responsibilities:

  • Perform month-end and year-end closing activities, including journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statement preparation.

  • Assist with the analysis of GL accounts and provide explanations for variances.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather and analyze data related to manufacturing costs, such as materials, labor, and overhead.

  • Calculate and allocate costs to inventory and cost of goods sold (COGS) using appropriate costing methodologies.

  • Monitor and analyze manufacturing variances, investigating any discrepancies and proposing corrective actions.

  • Assist in the preparation of cost reports, budgets, and forecasts.

  • Contribute to the preparation of internal and external financial statements and reports.

  • Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards, regulations, and company policies.

  • Assist with internal and external audits, providing necessary documentation and explanations as required.

  • Participate in process improvement initiatives to enhance internal controls and ensure data integrity.

    Requirements

Staff Accountant Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting,

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in general ledger accounting, preferably with a focus on manufacturing cost accounting.

  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and practices.

  • Proficiency in Oracle financial software is preferred

  • Advanced Excel skills, including Lookups, Pivot Tables, Etc.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy in work.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
