The Trade Compliance Analyst position focuses on ensuring adherence with company policy and procedures as they relate to International Trade (exports, sanctions) and Antiboycott Laws. The selected individual will be expected to clearly and effectively interpret, communicate, guide, and where appropriate, influence business units on a wide variety of transactions or dealings that trigger international trade or antiboycott compliance requirements. The position will be expected to partner with the business and other compliance analysts to ensure that appropriate processes for international trade and antiboycott are implemented by the business unit. The position is expected to develop an understanding of the business unit’s export and import activities, as well as an awareness of any Free Trade Agreements that may impact the business operations.

The position requires strong written and verbal communication skills, analytical capabilities, good judgment in identifying issues and elevating to counsel as may be necessary, a willingness to learn new compliance procedures, and to be a leader in advocating for trade compliance.

Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:

  • Collaborating with compliance colleagues to establish and help deploy appropriate compliance procedures.

  • Serving as a point of contact for supported business unit personnel needing guidance on trade compliance requirements.

  • Supporting supervisor in assessing and analyzing of business unit trade compliance risks/environment, identifying issues, making recommendations on corrective actions, and ensuring those actions are implemented on a timely basis.

  • Reviewing and responding to trade compliance requests submitted to ensure compliance with Chevron policy and compliance program.

  • Coordinating reviews with business unit and in-house counsel as needed to resolve questions and/or concerns regarding proposed activities.

  • Supporting the Due Diligence Center of Excellence as needed to review and process due diligence reports to assess and mitigate third party risks as related to trade.

  • Providing support and guidance to other compliance staff and business partners, by responding to questions, developing, and maintaining procedures and processes related to international trade.

  • Providing guidance to the business on any reporting requirements. This includes appropriate planning, communication, follow-up, issue escalation, and quality review. In addition, position will be expected to work on key trade compliance initiatives and projects, report milestones achieved, organize and deliver any requested or required training to key business stakeholders, and keeping abreast of changes to compliance processes.

  • Developing and preparing performance metric reports to monitor the effectiveness of the trade compliance related activities to provide to the business and to ensure adherence to key organizational metrics.

  • Attending all Trade Compliance team meetings and participating in sharing forums.

  • Assisting the business in closing any trade compliance process gaps identified by Corporate Audit working with Team Lead and Senior Trade Counsel. Ensuring that adequate documentation is maintained on all audit control activity. Tracking status of compliance audit action items and process exception items.

  • Providing guidance and assistance for the export classification of products, software, and data.

  • Assisting Senior Trade Counsel with the review of trade compliance clauses in contracts.

Required Qualifications:

  • Associate degree

  • Experience as a compliance analyst

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • Three+ years of trade compliance experience

  • Familiarity with U.S. export control laws

  • Experience with export classifications

  • Experience with sanctioned party screening or customer due diligence

Relocation Options:

Relocation will not be considered.

International Considerations:

Expatriate assignments will not be considered.

Special Considerations:

  • This position may require flexible work hours to communicate with personnel in supported business units in a variety of time zones.

  • Selected candidate will be part of Corporate Compliance. Compliance requests are not predictable, and the candidate should be prepared to quickly adjust to business needs for the supported business units.

  • The candidate will be part of a team of analysts and may be asked to assist a colleague with another business unit as project or special circumstances warrant.

  • There may be project opportunities to expand learning of other subject areas.

CRITICAL SELECTION CRITERIA:

Communication - Ability to effectively interact and clearly communicate with a wide variety of people about requirements and processes. Audience includes business unit personnel (at both senior & staff levels), headquarters teams, business audit/leadership teams, legal counsel, and others. Gain the cooperation of others through persuasive communication. Provide management with concise, clear summaries of status and key issues.

Leadership / Project Management - Ability to articulate the goal, formulate necessary steps, encourage others to follow, champion issues and effectively engage, mobilize, and influence organizations or teams. Ability to balance multiple requirements at the same time, persistently drive progress on department initiatives and consistently seek to broaden the scope of their role.

Compliance / Business Knowledge – Working knowledge of the U.S. Export Administration Regulations would be helpful as well as experience working in-house in a large organization with an international presence. Demonstrate ability to analyze, interpret and apply concepts and controls to business transactions. Able to understand, assess, proactively identify issues and provide timely guidance to business partners.

Teamwork / Interpersonal - Ability to work collaboratively in a multi-discipline team environment and with a wide variety of people. Must be able to maintain/develop effective relationships with peers, other departments and functions. Drive positive and productive team dynamics with diverse colleagues
