About the Opportunity

We are seeking a Participant Engagement Specialist to join our Center for Engagement in Science and Nature. This role is integral to our mission of fostering participant engagement and satisfaction so that people of all ages and backgrounds can learn more about birds, connect with biodiversity, and participate in science. The specialist will support multiple projects, primarily Bird Academy, but also the Visitor Center, NestWatch, Project FeederWatch, Celebrate Birds, and the Great Backyard Bird Count.


What We Need:

  • Associate's degree and 2 years of experience with online communications and/or customer service or equivalent combination.
  • Experience educating the public about birds or related topics.
  • Knowledge of survey design and/or implementation to assess performance.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and handle multiple projects and requests simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Proven ability to work in a team environment where cooperation between colleagues and flexibility to different styles and approaches is required.
  • Experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and wellbeing.

Preferably, the successful candidate will also have the following:

  • Bachelor's degree or other formal training of 4 years.
  • Expertise in bird identification and biology.
  • Experience with customer service for customers navigating digital content.
  • Experience in providing scientific content to the general public on the Web.
  • Experience in visual marketing, including proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud software and basic photo editing.
  • Ability to analyze, interpret, and communicate about quantitative and qualitative data.
  • Familiarity with following brand guidelines.
  • Proficiency with Freshdesk or similar customer service software.
  • Familiarity with Hubspot for building marketing campaigns.
  • Familiarity with data analysis software.
  • Fluency in Spanish.

This position is located at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology in Ithaca, NY. This position can be hybrid remote work. The specifics of this arrangement will be reviewed with you when you begin the position, and the University must approve of the desired remote work location.
