The primary mission of Cornell University's Biomedical Engineering department is to educate students to understand the human body as an integrated system through quantitative engineering analysis and to use that understanding to design better therapeutic strategies, devices, and diagnostics. A mission of nearly equal importance is to serve society by conducting research that develops quantitative linkages across scales in the human body and uses that development to build new tools to improve human health.

The Opportunity


Are you passionate about enhancing the academic journey and success of undergraduate students? The Department of Biomedical Engineering at Cornell University is seeking a dedicated and team-oriented Undergraduate Coordinator to join our mission. This pivotal role supports both our undergraduate majors and minors, serving as a cornerstone of student support and departmental operations.


Key Responsibilities

  • Administrative Leadership: Oversee major administrative functions including student affiliation processes, record-keeping, academic committee coordination, and academic actions.
  • Student Support and Advising: Provide personalized advising to students, addressing their unique needs, guiding them through academic challenges, and referring them to other available services as necessary. Coordinate with Engineering Student Services to develop robust support mechanisms.
  • Course and Program Coordination: Manage logistics for departmental courses, maintain course data, and support accreditation processes. Play a crucial role in program advertisement and the development of educational materials.
  • Event and Project Management: Organize and staff major departmental events such as commencement and orientation. Participate in special projects and continuous improvement initiatives.

What We Need

  • Ability to actively listen, be patient, and remain calm in highly sensitive situations, i.e. attending to a student of concern, and use of sound judgement when referring students to other services.
  • Impeccable integrity with a clear sense of ethics, fairness, discretion, and personal responsibility
  • Ability to read and comprehend policies, guidelines, protocols and ask appropriate questions when dealing with outlier situations.
  • Ability to quickly learn software programs, understand data relationships using multiple sources, and create meaningful reports both routine and ad hoc.
  • Must be available to work during commencement weekend and potentially other events that may be scheduled off business hours.
