Consumers Energy Sr Technical Accounting and Financial Reporting Analyst in JACKSON, Michigan

Location:

This position is assigned to One Energy Plaza located in Jackson, MI to work in a hybrid status reporting onsite every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday with flexibility to work from home on Wednesday and Friday. The candidate must be within a daily commutable distance for the location or willing to relocate (relocation package is available to those who qualify).

We are looking for: Sr Technical Accounting and Financial Reporting Analyst

The Sr Technical Accounting and Financial Reporting Analyst prepares and reviews research, assists in providing guidance on complex accounting matters, and collaborates with cross- functional teams to ensure accurate treatment of transactions. Monitor for new and changing accounting standards and evaluate their impact on our financial reporting. Prepare and review financial statements and related disclosures in accordance with regulatory guidelines and organizational policies. Ensure the integrity and accuracy of reported financial information.

The knowledge and skills involved with this position include but are not limited to:

  • In-depth knowledge of accounting principles and experience applying them to complex transactions

  • Proficient with financial reporting software and accounting research tools

  • Proficient with the Microsoft Office suite of software products, Adobe applications, and other general application software

  • Excellentcommunicationskillsbothwrittenandverbal

We encourage you to apply if you have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting or related discipline with four (4) or more years’ of applicable experience

  • [OR] Associate’s degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting or related discipline with eight (8) or more years’ of applicable experience

  • [OR] High School Diploma with twelve (12) or more years of related experience

In this role, you will :

  • Research moderately complex technical accounting issues with a minimal level of supervision and support needed. Clearly documents and supports accounting conclusions in a variety of forms (ranging from emails to formal accounting position papers)

  • Provides accounting consultation and advice to cross-functional internal partners in support of strategic business and developing transactions,withaminimal levelofsupervisionneeded.Servesasaco-ownerofcross-functional relationshipsalongsidesupervisor

  • Coordinates, prepares, and reviews sections of the quarterly and annual SEC filings, including writing and reviewing disclosures and obtaining, analyzing, documenting, and reviewing support for financial data being disclosed

  • Monitors new and emerging accounting standards. Evaluates and communicates potential impacts of new accounting standards with supervision and support, working with other departments as needed

  • Develops implementation plans for basic to moderately complex accounting standards

  • Provideshighly valuable inputto monthly and quarterly internalreports and analyses

  • Evaluate standard to moderately complex contracts executed by company for accounting issues and documents conclusions, with a minimal level of supervision and support needed

  • Prepares subject matter specific reporting documents to meet compliance and/or control needs of business stakeholders (i.e., debt compliance certificates, debt covenant calculations, dividend calculations, legal reports, and other government reports), with a minimal level of supervision of support needed
