Job Summary and Qualifications
The Respiratory Therapy (RT) Extern provides patient treatment within the various common modalities of respiratory care under the supervision of a Licensed Respiratory Therapist. Assists staff by caring for patients, in accordance with the RT Extern’s skills/training and the needs of the department, performing clerical tasks and duties as assigned.
Administers aerosol therapy, chest physical therapy and oximetry evaluations to non-critical patients.
Performs Basic Life Support activities.
Teaches and demonstrates respiratory care activities to patients and their representatives.
Cleans, assembles, sets up and maintains equipment and supplies.
Perform non-invasive respiratory care procedures as ordered under the supervision of a licensed Respiratory Therapist.
Reports instances of perceived and actual non-compliance to Supervisor or through other reporting mechanisms.
Perform basic respiratory care modalities under the direct supervision of a licensed respiratory therapist.
Performs basic patient assessments.
Initiates, manages and maintains basic oxygen delivery systems on the floors.
Administers respiratory medications via nebulizer, MDI and DPI.
Performs oxygen saturation checks, exercise oximetry’s and bedside pulmonary function testing.
Disassembles, cleans, reassembles, tests functionality, and packages durable supplies.
Performs inventory and replenishes respiratory care supplies in designated areas.
Perform other inventory and respiratory equipment responsibilities under the direction of the Licensed Respiratory Therapist.
What qualifications you will need:
Currently enrolled and in good standing in an accredited school obtaining degree in Respiratory Therapy and completed one semester.
Advanced Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 60 days of employment start date
Current Basic Cardiac Life Support certification
