Responsibilities:

Client Relations and Compliance:

  • Foster positive relationships with clients to meet their needs.

  • Investigate and address complaints related to the laboratory or personnel promptly.

Quality Assurance and Testing:

  • Establish consistent processes for proficiency testing.

  • Oversee proper and efficient testing from specimen collection to reporting and assist in maintaining quality control and proficiency testing programs.

  • Maintain necessary documentation to comply with requirements of regulatory and certifying agencies to maintain accreditation.

  • Work with CPLIS and APLIS to ensure smooth operation and development of the LIS.

  • Provide essential support for Clinical Pathology operations.

  • Measure key performance areas and recommend improvements in testing, customer service, and employee satisfaction.

  • Facilitate IRB-approved research protocols.

Professional Development and Goals:

  • Stay informed about management and laboratory science developments.

  • Drive development and implementation of new tests and methodologies.

  • Set short-term and long-range goals for assigned divisions.

Budget Management and Representation:

  • Manage budgets at testing sites and supply & inventory purchasing.

  • Represent the Laboratory on committees.

Policy Compliance and Instrumentation:

  • Ensure compliance with policies, laws, and regulations.

  • Maintain and use testing instrumentation properly.

Supervision and Performance Management:

  • Orient and train staff.

  • Supervise staff, adjust workloads, and delegate administrative tasks.

  • Create opportunities for staff to enhance their knowledge and skills through internal and external education.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders during the hiring process.

  • Set performance standards and conduct evaluations.

  • Address coaching and disciplinary actions when necessary.

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Medical Laboratory Science or equivalent discipline

  • Six years of experience in laboratory operations required, including two or more years in a supervisory or leadership capacity preferred

Preferred

  • Advanced degree in Management / Business Administration

  • Experience in a clinical laboratory environment

  • Analytical and organizational ability necessary to provide effective operational, administrative, financial and personnel management in assigned areas

  • Interpersonal abilities necessary to deal effectively with all levels of Hospital staff and physicians and to direct assigned personnel

  • Superior verbal and written communication skills

  • Demonstrated proficiency in computer applications

  • NY state Medical technology licensure

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

Am Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) certification (or equivalent) preferred.

  • Clinical Laboratory Technologist
