Joplin Schools Practical Nursing Instructor in Joplin, Missouri

Title: Practical Nursing Instructor

Term: 10 Months

Classification: Certified/Exempt

Location: FTC Adult Education - MEC Campus

Qualifications:

  • Current, active RN license or privilege to practice.
  • No current disciplinary action in the state of Missouri on licensees RN license.
  • No past disciplinary action in the state of Missouri or any other U.S. state or territory.

Educational requirements:

  • Instructor shall have a minimum of a BSN degree with a clinical component, who is academically and experientially qualified in the area of nursing responsibility;
  • teaching experience preferred but not necessary.

Requirements:

  • Final approval must be obtained from the Missouri Board of Nursing before the position is assigned.
  • Must obtain MO/DESE teaching certification within the first two (2) years of employment.

  • Conduct all official business in a professional and timely manner, utilizing district technology resources.
  • Arrive to work and leave work at the time specified by supervisors and attend all required meetings pertinent to the position.
  • Maintains accurate records and filing systems for accountability and audit purposes as required by law and Board policy.
  • Solve practical problems utilizing math functions as needed to complete job duties.
  • Read and interpret documents such as work orders, safety rules, and handbooks and apply to job duties

Summary

The Practical Nursing Instructor must demonstrate the following:

  • deliver theory and skills training through direct teaching and demonstration of skills
  • provide experience in safety and maintenance issues in the medical workplace
  • teach the course curriculum as outlined by FTC and DESE
  • build knowledge and develop medical skills
  • maintain accurate records on all students, including but not limited to attendance records, schedules and course requirements regarding hours of instruction and content
  • evaluate and document students progress through testing, observation, and assessment of skills attained
  • communicate effectively with students, and all affiliated with the course.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Communicate effectively with adult students.
  • Provide student academic counseling as needed.
  • Document student competencies.
  • Ensure confidentiality of student records.
  • Effectively monitor, instruct, and evaluate students in clinical settings.
  • Identify and maximize utilization of available learning opportunities in the clinical settings.
  • Comply with minimum standards established by MO, State of Board Nursing.
  • Act as a positive nursing role model to students and peers.
  • Teach a portion of the curriculum of the Nursing program.
  • Collaborate with the nursing faculty to develop, implement and evaluate the curriculum for the Nursing Program.
  • Participate in the recruitment and retention efforts for the Nursing Program.
  • Participate in the Nursing Advisory Committee for the program.
  • Keeps abreast of new information, innovative ideas and techniques.
  • Ensures that all activities conform to district, state, or federal guidelines.
  • Exhibits dependability and punctuality in assigned duties; has consistent and regular attendance
  • Carry out all other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

  • Ability to implement curriculum, testing, and/or teaching methodologies
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Knowledge of teaching methods, curriculum, and education programs
  • Possess teaching and facilitation skills
  • Ability to teach and control the behavior of students
  • Knowledge of academic and/or vocational education curricula
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply relevant current education methodologies and techniques
  • Ability to understand and follow Board policies, administrative procedures and training and handbook materials

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, talk, and hear. The employee frequently is required to stand or sit. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and depth perception. The employee must be able to lift 25 pounds.

Conditions and Environment

The individual who holds this position will regularly work in a school environment that is noisy and active. Occasionally the individual will be required to work outdoors for short periods of time to perform such tasks as loading and unloading students from district transportation and supervising recess.*
