The Payroll Manager will be responsible for overseeing and managing a team of payroll officers to ensure payroll is processed and paid accurately in time. The scope includes payroll for ANZ region but primarily Australian payroll with multiple employing entities and multiple payroll cycles. Another key aspect for this role is to support process efficiency improvements, external vendor analysis and supporting project teams to introduce new and more efficient time and attendance system.

Key activities may include:

  • Managing the delivery of weekly, fortnightly, and monthly multi-state payroll for 9 companies in Australia and New Zealand.

  • Developing and maintaining a payroll risk and crisis management strategy;

  • Providing advice to managers and staff in relation to software applications, pay, legislation, award changes and company policies;

  • Attending to basic changes to payroll files;

  • Assist the HR manager and Finance team in the provision of payroll reports, data analysis etc. as required;

  • Assisting in documentation of all key payroll related procedures with periodic reviews to ensure regulatory requirements are maintained;

  • Coordinate payment of PAYG, payroll tax, superannuation and workers’ compensation;

  • Ensure Termination and Redundancy calculations are accurate, Conduct leave reconciliation and reporting for Senior Management;

  • Interpreting NES, Awards and Enterprise Agreements and ensuring payroll is complaint in ANZ;

  • Preparing payroll payments, weekly, fortnightly, monthly, including superannuation and payroll tax;

  • Identifying opportunities for process improvement, implementing procedures, undertaking data reviews, audits, updating payroll calculation templates, checklists and manuals;

  • Managing projects, liaising with software vendors, consultants and government bodies;

  • Providing leadership and guidance to the payroll team to support the delivery of excellent customer service for company employees;

  • Identifying staff development needs, organizing training, performance management and goal setting;

  • Responding to staff enquiries and resolving payroll issues in a timely manner;

  • Review time and attendance data for correctness;

  • Commitment to Quality, Safety and Environmental requirements; and

  • Attend to any ad-hoc payroll matters as directed by the Senior Human Resources Director.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor degree / Diploma or similar qualification is required;

  • Minimum 7+ years’ experience as a Payroll Manage in a medium-large sized organization (multiple cycles and ABN’s desirable;

  • Strong command of various payroll system but most desirable in Meridian and understanding of Workday;

  • Exposure and experience in timekeeping systems (desirable Mitre Finch);

  • Exposure to ESS (desirable Micropay ESP).

  • Proactive approach to improving payroll process and systems;

  • Excellent attention to detail and time management skills;

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;

  • Strong MS Excel skills; and

  • Assertive & confident.
