Description

A.T. Still University's Missouri School of Dentistry & Oral Health (ATSU-MOSDOH) is seeking a non-exempt Dental Hygienist Instructor on the Kirksville, Missouri, campus. The position reports to the Director, Preclinical Education and Simulation Clinic. The Dental Hygienist is responsible for various tasks including, but not limited to, facilitating students’ learning in the clinical section of the Simulation Clinic and working with other staff members to ensure smooth workflow of courses and projects that take place in the Simulation Clinic. The position also focuses on Dentistry in the Community projects and activities.

Please note that adjunct positions are only filled on an as-needed basis.

Major Job Duties

  1. Facilitate student learning in the clinical section of the simulation clinic

  2. Monitor the inventory in the Simulation Clinic and prepare supplies for courses

  3. Participate in community outreach programs and Dentistry in the Community programs (DIC)

  4. Act as a liaison with local oral health clinics

  5. Support teaching of courses that mainly take place in the Clinical section of the Simulation Clinic

  6. Provide feedback on student performance during their presence in the Simulation Clinic

  7. Report to the supervisor on regular basis about workflow

  8. Facilitate student learning activities in Clinical Sessions, Peer on peer activities, Radiology, Periodontology courses, and DIC

  9. Deliver educational materials to the students

  10. Participate in development and the reevaluation of learning activities

  11. Provide input in preparing exam questions and assessment

  12. Inform faculty when professionalism warnings and/or slips are needed so they can be issued by the faculty

  13. Submit professionalism warnings and/or slip on behalf of the faculty to the Director, Student Success

  14. Attend and participate in the biannual Faculty Advance

  15. Proctor OSCE/OSPE and practical exams

  16. Maintain current knowledge in the areas that they provide student feedback by attending continuing education courses and development opportunities as recommended by Director, Simulation Clinic & Pre-Clinical Education in consultation with the Vice Dean, Academic Affairs

  17. Communicate with Simulation Clinic staff to ensure proper course supplies are prepared

  18. Monitor and track clinical inventory of the Simulation Clinic, including the use of written records

  19. Work closely with Simulation Clinic Equipment Technician to maintain Simulation Clinic and Clinical Training equipment

  20. Arrange outreach activities for D1 and D2 students in the Kirksville area

  21. Provide administrative support to the Director, Simulation Clinic & Pre-Clinical Education, including student grade entry

  22. Other duties as assigned by the Director, Simulation Clinic & Pre-Clinical Education

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree required, Masters degree preferred

  • Proficient computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

  • Excellent, polite communication skills

  • The incumbent is responsible for various tasks requiring advanced coordination skills and the ability to work independently without being told individual steps to complete tasks

  • The individual must possess strong organizational skills and have advanced problem solving skills

  • Effective time management

  • Must represent ATSU in a highly professional manner, both internally and externally

  • Must be on campus no later than 8:00 A.M., Monday through Friday when a quiz, examination or assessment is scheduled. May occasionally require some early hours, weekend and/or evening work as projects require.
